Communication

How is everyone feeling in terms of communication? Has it improved, gotten worse or stayed the same at team, division or company level? Do you feel talked at or talked to? Do you feel valued or not? Do you feel like you are in the know or left out?

Communication? What communication? Just a bunch of low IQ mindless id–t managers parroting the same corporate talking points. You're not allowed to have an opinion or speak when not spoken to! Just shut up and do what you're told to do like a good robot!

ok, I gotta ask even though the question is a trap ... how do you figure that? I can't wait to see the answer.

Guys I wanted to give you an update on that ear pimple. For those who didn't see my previous (now deleted) post, here's a synopsis: I have a pimple in my ear, not in the ear canal itself but just outside it in the fleshy part of the ear. It was large, deep within the skin, incredibly painful and just refused to pop. So I gave it some attention and nurturing and here we are with this update.

So anyway, after a couple of days of gentle squeezing and hot compresses this ear pimple came to a head. I took a piece of tissue paper and put it in my ear to cover up the area, then by applying pressure from underneath the pimple and using my index and middle finger for leverage (imagine pushing the plunger on a syringe), I caused the pimple to erupt satisfactorily.

Because this giant pimple was right next to my ear canal I heard the pop quite clearly. It made an actual popping sound (which sounded incredibly loud), followed by what could be described as the sound whipped cream makes when you squirt it from the can, kind of a scratchy "whoosh" sound. About 1/8 of a teaspoon of blood, pus, sebum and various chunky keratin bits came out onto the tissue.

After a couple more thorough squeezes to make sure nothing was left behind, I used several cotton swabs dipped in 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean and disinfect the area, then applied a generous dab of Neosporin to the now gaping bloody pore.

The last couple of days, sebum has been leaking out slowly from the pimple crater and crystalizing as a crunchy little scab on top which I've been removing using alcohol dipped cotton swabs and re-treating with Neosporin. So far no secondary infection has developed and the pain has subsided.

Thanks for reading and good luck with the layoffs and such!

I'm getting really upset when someone calls from the office and interrupts the movie I am watching.

Wow! 1:1? My manager has NEVER had a 1:1 with me. He never speaks to me unless necessary to achieve his objectives. He has a weekly meeting with the team, but it’s a joke. Nobody has a clue what he is talking about, what his agenda is. He is literally THE WORST manager I have ever had in my entire life. Generally, I’ve liked all managers, but this manager, I hate admitting it, but I have absolutely no confidence in or respect for. I feel the same for his manager too unfortunately as myself and others tried speaking to him and were totally dismissed. I feel like the broader company is trying to make life better, but my area I’ve lost all faith in...so much so that I fear I cannot get it back.

Wow, I can relate to every one of these posts – for me also it's "absent management and check off the box". I've been results-oriented my entire career, but think it just might be time to take some of this advice.

It's a shame I was laid off in January, I would've thrived in this environment.

Last year I decided I was a full time WFH employee and started doing it without telling anyone. For 7 months I didn't come into the office even once. Communication was so bad at this company that even pre-coronavirus I got away with it for a very, very long time without so much as even trying to hide it.

In this environment where everyone is working from home and nobody is communicating, and the company is getting paid to not lay people off, I would have made it the rest of the year not doing a goddamn thing. If I were you guys I would take this to its logical limit, stop working altogether and just collect that paycheck. They won't do sh!t bros.

It's gotten worse in my area. I only hear from my team lead once a week where he talks over me the entire 5 minute duration of our one-on-one. We did have a group call setup with the offshore team, but after he fell asleep and audible snored in our last meeting it mysteriously was cancelled. Wish I was joking.

Communication at the lower level is bad. It’s only gotten worse. It’s non existent. You used to at least see the dog chasing it’s tail. Now you don’t even see it. It’s all about those check marks.
