If you got the offer, consider yourself lucky. I missed it by just a few years. It's a great offer I'd have jumped at. Oh, well. It is what it is, I guess. I wonder if we'll have involuntary layoffs if not enough people accept and what kind of package will be offered in that case.

@OP This package is not good at all. If not enough folks take the package, Nokia has two choices - either 1) they offer a better package with 2 year full salary pay just like they do in Europe or 2) they RIF those over 50+ years of age which would follow by employee lawsuits which would cost more in the end for Nokia for age discrimination (and wouldn't get the label as an ethical company).
Msoft offer for someone with 30 yrs... 9 months pay. Full Bonus, 1 yr subsidized medical (same rate as when an employee), yrs 2 thru 5 COBRA rates vs stopping after 18 mo. Plus stock vesting (which would be substantial for Msoft)
@OP It seems discriminatory on a few levels. especially it US pension funds are being used to fund it. Microsoft voluntary retirement is much less restrictive and 100% more generous.
