Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Why I am here ?

Why I am here ?

I am looking for information about layoffs and potential layoff scenarios and how to tackle the before and after scenarios.
Looking to leverage experience of others so that I can navigate the scenarios if I am axed.

Why am I at BNYM?

With my current skill set, this is a well paying job and a comfortable "hybrid" arrangement that lets me manage my life with savings on child care and commuting costs to NYC. Do I feel that I deserve more? Yes and if I find another job with the similar intangibles I would jump. Until then this place is where I have to work and make a living.

This basically implies that I have to abide by their rule sets and play along. I realize that I joined this firm willingly and agreed to deliver for the pay they offered. I signed the dotted line.

Do I feel happy about them changing the rules .. No I am not. At the same time, can I change it? Unfortunately no. When the environment become less tolerable I have to leave. Been in min wage jobs and when it did not make economic sense I left the job and stood in unemployment line. Not a pleasant experience

This site, at present, does not help people like me with anxieties about their job. This site is loaded with so much negativity (by a select few repeats and those who claim to have left the firm but still troll ) it really does not help the folks who are worried about their jobs and probable layoffs. These are the folks looking for information aka rumors that have legs.

Provide your experience and information (even rumors). Water cooler opinions and racial / political commentary may add color but is not helping. Who cares if I am replaced by an Indian/Polish/Chinese or I replaced an Indian/Polish/Irish/Israeli ? I have no say in it as long as it is done legally (and the bank HR will ensure that they abide by law).

All these racial name-calling is not going to get the job back or is going to influence the HR or the EC to change course. The bank has laid off hundreds, if not thousands and hired thousands as replacements elsewhere.

After this rumored round (this week) I intend to stay away from this site. It is doing more mental harm than the actual lay off.

Thanks for listening

@2okj

Don’t see any reduction in force on Yahoo Finance, which has no axe to grind. In fact employee count has been growing. But of course if you don’t consider off shore resources to be human beings you can rationalize it.

@2fwr, care to explain the billion dollar severance charges we've seen over the last few years?

Same, reading this site, you would think there’s mass layoffs going on every week here,, but that’s not the case.. it’s bad for your mental health.. Unless there’s a WARN act posted, I don’t trust any poster warning of layoffs every 3 business days.

I got laid off more than a year ago. I keep coming back to watch the train wreck that I escaped. This site requires copious amounts of popcorn.
