Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

This hurts

Still trying to process how a company I did FIVE rounds of interviews with pulled the offer without warning or explanation. Just gone. I turned down other options for this, and now I’m stuck starting from scratch again. It’s hard not to feel like you did something wrong, even when you didn’t. Be careful out there. No matter what recruiters or interviewers say, keep your options open.

There are jobs that get posted that are 100% not being filled at the moment. They are used (regardless of reason) to get resumed and have interviews, zero chance to get hired. I had 4 interviews for FNB only to be denied, so its not uncommon. Years ago at BNY I had 5 interviews and turns out the req was canceled and were just doing more interviews until they were told if they were allowed to hire for the position or not.

More than 5. LOFFFFL. All that means is that we are working for an imbecilic, broken, nonsense producing, embarrassing firm.
If the right candidate cannot be locked down after 2 interviews and ‘screen tests’ - 3 at most then that is a reflection on us that we are a very bad and delinquent company that is functioning poorly. And…. We are.

I’ve known candidates who have had to come back for more rounds than five!

There was a senior leader in my area who could not make a hiring decision for the life of her. She would ask us in a neighboring group to participate in the process, and there were many times when the candidate, recognizing we were the sensible people, would plead to know how many more interviews they would be subjected to…

YOU DODGED A BULLET, trust me!! And I'm not some disgruntled ex-employee. I worked there for more than 12 years and loved it, but I was hugely in the minority. Throughout the years though I have seen what they have done to their people and it has gone downhill FAST over the last eight or so years. They are a highly immoral and sneaky company and I mean, come on, it's Wall Street. They're incredibly greedy.

What would have hurt more is you accepting the position.

After 10 years in Oriskany, I can honestly say someone was looking out for you. BNY Mellon would have been a great regret for you. Just look at all of the comments and posting regarding BNY Mellon.

You absolutely 100% dodged a bullet. Be thankful that some lifeforce out there was watching out for you...

Either this thread is B. S. Or the OP is a complete dolt who deserves zero sympathy. After two rounds and obvious delays, that’s a hint and three quarters to move on. Stupid.

Be glad. Honestly.

I was (re)hired back earlier this year. I was offered the position and before accepting, asked HR a few questions that were dependent on me accepting the offer or not. HR called me instead of responding to the emails and gave me the answers I was looking for. A few months pass and when I asked management about the items in question, I was told that HR had no room in telling me that and the things that I was questioning were not going to happen. Of course I had no proof of anything because HR wouldn’t put it in writing, they were smart and answered my questions via phone call instead. If I had known the truth in the first place, I never would’ve accepted the position to come back.

HR is just as sneaky as the higher ups in this place. Tell you what you wanna hear in the beginning then when it’s time to take action, they tell you it’s all a lie. This place used to be an enjoyable place to work. Somewhere that we used to be proud to say we worked at. Now, it’s just a place that barely helps pay the bills and give you a little bit of spending money. Unless you bend the knee to management, or continue to switch departments every year or two in hopes of a substantial pay raise, there’s no real opportunity to make more money here. You MIGHT get up to a 2% yearly raise but after insurance goes up, you’re not making anything extra. The bad definitely outweighs the good anymore with BNY. You’re better off not working here, honestly.

We told you not to wait oh no…
Now you got job prospects blown…
And here you moan and groan and woe…
Don’t forget we told you so….

You effed up. You trusted BNY.

Wait….. to confirm - you are saying they offered you the job, you accepted and then they pulled the offer?

If so, that’s despicable, but part for the course there
