Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Are we still pretending RTO was ever about productivity?

We should all know by now what RTO was really about - control. More importantly, it was designed to make as many people quit on their own as possible. Every new level of ridiculousness or barely manageable policy they roll out is just to gaslight you into throwing everything up in the air and walking away. Well, some decisions that boggle the mind can also be ascribed to management being smart and competent.

@ek you already are timed! They track the hours based on how long your laptop is connected to the in office network.

I know 6 or so people that have to commute in who have zero team members in office to collaborate with.

They have office space they can't get rid of, and the politicians want people riding the trains and buying lunch. Maybe that's why we have cops at the doors?

It was partially about control. It’s also partially about finding loopholes to eliminate people avoid paying severance as well as staying out of the media for laying off so many people.

@c5 And the pandemic was proof-positive that work can be done more efficiently from home, and that the previously-held dogma of commuting to an office every day was an antiquated concept. The only people who had a problem with this new paradigm shift were a certain demographic of people who have not advanced past the year 1971, despite society's changes in a technological sense. Imagine having access to arguably the greatest form of technology of the 20th century but still scoffing at anyone who does not want to be stuck in traffic, crammed in a subway car, confined to a cubicle, or be subjected to hearing their coworkers babbling about their daughter's softball matches.

@a7 This company had remote and hybrid positions before the pandemic, Boomer. This ain't the '70s anymore. We do our work on this magical piece of technology called the internet. We don't use typewriters and stand around the water cooler complaining about wives, grandpa.

fully agree....3 days was enough. Four days is adding more to our low salaries and recent merit and salary while bank celebrates earnings and high stock price. the bank is definitely not paying staff that are doing the work.

If by we you mean the lies the leadership team tells us? Then of course. But they know and all of everyone else knows it’s really just to drive more attrition. Unfortunately, BNY is just not a great company. They can’t keep this up for much longer. One or two big clients out the door will really fracture the business.

That NAV error that happens because there aren’t enough people not burned may seem immaterial but behind closed doors clients are demanding more fees waived or else they’re walking out the door.

The only benefit of going in the office 4 days a week now is that we get to say we share the same BNY ground as Dermie. I just can’t get enough of Dermie and his freakishly large head driving this P-O-M cluster f into the ground. We should bow down and kiss the BNY chemical carpets to even be allowed to be exposed to this man’s genius and vision! New level of ridiculousness ? You betcha! This company would make toasting bread an agile project that calls for 46 people on calls for 8 months. Smart and competent? Nah, just profoundly imbecilic to make you want to run away with no benefits. And Dermie with the planetoid head is the fuel to this madness.
