For those who moved up internally, how many jobs did you apply to, to get a new role internally? In the US.

@m8 wait
@m8 Nothing matters when you have proper contacts.
Do you have to wait 1 year of employment to be able to apply to other internal roles? can you apply with less than 7 months in current role?
@ew They also post roles they have no plan on filling to give the illusion a company is stronger than it is. Half the jobs posted in companies and on zip etc are fake. Makes the job market look better than it actually is.
You're correct. For legal reasons, companies need to post the open job requisition even though they already know who they want to hire or give a job offer to.
Doing this wastes the job applicants'-Svckers' time, false hopes and money!
In addition to wasting the time and efforts of the companies' own HR department!
All this wasted BullSh!t trickles down to wasting Shareholders' money!
But the companies don't GAFF Give A Flying Fvck!
@bk maybe the fact you applied to 80+ roles... seems like someone doesn't know what they want.
Sorry to burst your bubble but every person and team I directly work with C12-C15 all are internal movements that's 20-30+ people spread across multiple teams and departments. Some people just don't interview well or in some cases a person who the hiring manager wants to promote is already selected but HR will require them to post the position anyway.
It's waste of time. I applied for over 80+ positions in the past 4 years, for promotion roles. I got few responses and like may be 5 or 6 initial interviews. Except one position, I am pretty sure that all other interviews are fake and they just interviewed me for documentation purposes.
Everything else is an automatic rejection email. Internal mobility for higher roles is a SCAM!
You will ONLY get the look if you know the manager/team in advance and get the wink BEFORE the job is posted. Make sure you do that before you waste your time applying. TRUST ME. Keep you ears open, who is leaving, what team is growing (best opportunity) who had H1B problems (oh yeah!) and high-risk rif locations. Good luck, I played that game.
I tried to move up last year but no luck. I was connected, had good EOY, qualified, and followed leads given to me by peers. Some of those roles were ultimately never filled. Finally got an offer to move laterally and took it toget out of a toxic situation. Now I realize this whole place is toxic, sooooo ....
It is good to know people.
I've applied to three roles and have been successful in all three.
For four years, I have targeted roles strictly aligned with my advanced skill set and professional level. Despite submitting a couple of hundred applications, the vast majority have failed to yield even an initial interview.
It really depends on the level you're at and what you're going for. The higher up, the more selective and targeted you need to be. But at any level, spamming the system is never a good look. Have a reason for each application you submit that had to do with the actual job and not just its level.
It's half luck and half standing out, I've moved up from a b10 to c12 in 3 yrs. Apply for anything that you have the minimum qualifications for and be sure to send a introduction email to the hiring manager I've gotten 8 interview in 12 months due to introduction email. The biggest warning tho for internal movement is your current scorecard the hiring manager have access to your scorecard and manager comments and they do review it so if you ever gotten a 4 for your year end before you might as well look somewhere else.
