The Wall Street Journal evaluates how leading US corps stack up in 6 areas: AI readiness, innovation, talent readiness, financial fitness, resilience and agility.
BNY Mellon ranks #422 overall with an Overall Score of 40.7, a weak placement for a major financial infrastructure institution. Its best factor is Innovation Rank #139, which is not bad, and Financial Fitness is mid-pack at #254. Those scores indicate some institutional relevance, but not leadership.
The deeper weakness is operating and human-capital readiness. BNY ranks #468 in Talent Readiness, #450 in Agility, and #395 in Resilience. That is a poor mix for a custody, asset servicing, and financial infrastructure company that should benefit from scale and trust. The data implies that BNY Mellon’s strategic challenge is not market relevance, but organizational modernization.
