I heard that this round of layoffs will be using AI algorithms to identify who should be laid off. It wasn’t clear if managers have to accept the AI decision or if managers can veto.

Yeah but if you're not in meetings constantly how can you be demonstrating your value so you can avoid 10% , that's the big brain play
this would be mo--nic. AI would look at what? Number of meetings? Time spent chatting? Time spent in meetings? None of those measures are reflective of anything meaningful. The biggest id--t on the planet can sit in 40 hours of meetings a week and accomplish nothing.
@d6 I think you’re misinformed. This is not illegal in all locations. Many companies in the US are currently using AI to decide who to layoff.

@OP There’s no evidence using AI to choose who gets laid off. All credible reporting shows AI is being used for operational efficiency, not HR decisions.
Even if the case to pick people for redundancy, laws makes that impossible!
US & UK GDPR and bans fully automated decisions that affect someone’s employment.
Redundancy law requires human led, transparent, fair selection criteria.
Employees must be consulted and given appeal rights.
If this was the case to let an AI decide layoffs, it would be illegal, trigger unfair dismissal claims, and cause regulatory action.
The rumour is simply wrong on all levels, the layoffs are human led strategic cuts, not algorithmic firing.
Yes this is true and shouldn't be a surprise. Not a good time to be one of the whiners who have been skating by, riding in the wagon instead of pulling the wagon. Time to pay the piper.
IBM provided a similar employee assessment system to oil industries top companies. Used phone, computer logins, breaks, and search history. A key metric was collaboration and network. It rewarded social behavior. AI must be order of magnitudes more impressive.
