Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The TDP event was a hard watch

If Stinky’s goal was to convince younger employees to stay, publicly taking shots at Gen Z over wanting flexibility wasn’t exactly the way to do it. His comments came across as dismissive, disrespectful and completely out of touch.

Here’s what this pre-computer dinosaur fails to understand. We grew up online, made friends online, had relationships online. We learned online, collaborated online, and even went to school and got degrees online. We don’t need a five-day RTO mandate to know how to be connected and productive.

Nobody is asking to never come into an office. People are asking for flexibility. Instead of trying to understand that, leadership keeps acting like it’s a work ethic problem.

Then they wonder why younger employees don’t stick around.

Maybe stop blaming the workforce and start asking why the workforce isn’t buying what your so called “leadership” is selling.

Your disconnect with reality because you did everything online shows. Gen Z has garbage social skills and can't cope with challenges and stress.

I constantly lower the bar for Gen Z so I don't get disappointed.

Did he wax on about roadkill like he did at the MGO conference. Sports teams should try to have him give pregame speeches to opponents. There are very few people more demotivating when they open their mouth.

I’m not sure what was worse, saying that wanting hybrid was socialism, or saying that to the new TDPs on their first day.

@c0 I wouldn't be in such a hurry to cheer Stankey out the door because the likelihood is that Legg will take over, or worse, McElfresh, who has the personality of a tree stump and the sympathy quotient of a honey badger.

@dw leadership wants you in the office 5/5 because CSO has told them that the Chinese are in every ISP except yours. VPNs are no longer secure.
But if they say that out loud, you're looking at a $16 stock price. So you didn't hear it from me. 😉

It’s a bummer how adversarial the relationship between the work force and upper management is…

This is the kind of culture Stankeys attitude and policies create…you can tell employees genuinely hate the company they’re working for by the things they say on here and the worst part is I hear the same or similar things in the office - so it isn’t just an online echo chamber, people genuinely hate this place.

Very unfortunate, used to be a good place to work.

@d8 exactly! Not sure why they feel the need to have people near them in the office. If you wanna go in 5 days, go ahead! What do you need me there for? Don’t worry about where I am. As long as all my work gets done it shouldn’t matter. These are the people who have nothing besides this job in their life and are so desperate for human interaction. Pathetic.

@cb It's amazing that JS has no awareness what-so-ever, here's a classic corporate stooge who has spent 41 F@(KnG years with at&t telling younger workers to change their mindset. He has no vision, an abysmal track record, no charisma, is all ego and hubris, and is despised by the majority of the employees, his only consistent strategy is to spend a boat load of money on consultants every few years, then cut headcount so T can continue to pay a dividend, further enriching himself at the company, & employees expense. That the BOD gives this guy $2.3 million a month to run the company into the ground borders on insanity.

I hope someone was recording… that was the worst town hall I’ve ever seen. Stankey is a geriatric that should be rambling on Fox and Friends, not the CEO of a company.

Sure grandpa, flexibility in the work place is the same thing as socialism in the USSR. Let’s get you to bed.

And this stupid fu-k goes on, and on, about “expectations”, well what if my expectation is the stock price goes up and the company does well? I would except a CEO to have even the slightest amount of competence, but this guy should be riding to work on the short bus, and in a nursing home simultaneously.

I honestly think he belongs in a nursing home. He doesn’t seem like he’s mentally well. After the event his handlers were trying to keep him distanced from interacting with TDPs.

His rambling rant was giving old man yells at cloud… Every time baldo opens his mouth he’s damaging the company. He needs the Joe Biden treatment. Just hide him away in a basement until his time is up.

@b3 he kept going on and on about how Gen Z needs to change their mindset and expectations from their employer. Basically what he kept saying is everyone else is wrong and he’s right. He is totally power drunk and delusional.

@ae the irony and choice of the quote given he possesses all of the characteristics of a narcissistic dictator. The entire company with few exceptions will break out in thunderous celebration when the man leaves which doesn’t seem to be anytime soon. His performance isn’t an indicator of his longevity.

A warning to the young, please don’t waste your best years here. This place isn’t changing until tech savvy mavericks take control of the ship. Gain a few key skills, scoop up a few juicy certs, build a nice resume and move along quickly as you can. Follow your instincts. Find the right company, one that represents the future of our industry. It’s out there, don’t be afraid to go for it.

@a7 "So what is the problem? Don’t like the rules? Quit,"

Are you really that dim? The OP explained that the event was a "rah rah" session for the TDPs to encourage them to stay. Stank basically told them to F-kOff with their opinions on what they expect from work. That is certainly not the way to convince someone to stay. Of course, this is further evidence of why almost 100% of the TDPs from the previous group have left the company.
