If you are a manager that naturally attempts to form cohesive and productive environments, avoid this institution at all costs. You will never be able to treat your reports with a basic level of humanity in the current culture. Learn from my mistake. Avoid at all costs, do not manage people here.

No most middle managers are not ‘drinking the kool aid’ . They are being told what to do, forced to do it, extorted by the threat of firing with zero benefits if they dont. Managers under Robin’s regime are not given any free reign or autonomy. Stand up to it? How? This place has a culture of threats and doing what you are told on everything. All bad regimes have the same M-O.
It’s refreshing to hear you say that . So many managers at just “drinking the cool-aid”. I have not seen a single manager challenge what they have been doing . Thanks.
Being a mgr here has done nothing but make me miserable and turn my hair gray. Literally. If its not sr mgmt overridding you and stepping on your toes, its HR allowing free for alls and they dont follow their own rules or contradict them constantly. Then the staff cant do sh-t without handholding and find any reason to call out. Hate all of them
I was a mid level manager and for a long time, we had this cool concept called “discretion”. But it wasn’t worth the headache when my senior leadership would override me, even if caused us to miss deadlines or create friction with other teams. Before I left, I passive-aggressively made the most problematic colleagues follow the rules to a tee and because I had a better job lined up, the stress was gone quickly.
Expendables.
A very sad statement but true.
