Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Why is everybody so terrified?

I joined BNYM about six months ago and I seem to be the only one on my team who is not terrified of losing my job. I swear, everybody is always scared and nobody dares complain or even talk to the manager. For the life of me I can't understand how they are willing to stay in such conditions for years. I'd rather quit than have to go through life like that.

Depends on your years there and salary And location....
If you have a big salary and are in Pittsburgh... You're at risk for 'talent refresh'

@qut+1ap7BqU7, if you have a mortgage that requires a job, you're probably not ready to retire.

There's a lot of mental abuse and mental illness at BNY Mellon. People who can be made to fear for their jobs every single day can be manipulated, controlled, and blatantly taken advantage of, which all helps to keep the payroll down. A person who is always scared of being laid off would also be too scared to dispute their wage or their mid year / end of year performance agreement. People at BNY Mellon act as if BNY is the only employer on planet earth, and heaven forbid if they loose their job, they think they will never work again in their entire life. I saw people in Pittsburgh that were barely functioning human beings. It was all so truly sad.

@red+1ap7BqU7,
Easy there, Michael Scott. Sounds like you're more of a group leader or a shift supervisor. Management doesn't supervise people, they make people more efficient and make sure they have to tools to accomplish the goals that they set. That's what's lacking at BNY.

Cause they have no ba––s and instead go on social media to talk c––p instead. There’s way you can speak up at work without being totally disrespectful. I’m a manager and I bust my a–s. I process when I need to also and will do work to keep it off my admins. What I don’t like is having to babysit everything my team does. You’re an adult and know what your role is. What I don’t like is seeing complaints constantly insinuating that mgmt is the problem. If you can’t do your job find another but don’t blame mgmt for you having to be addressed

Do you have a mortgage? Kids? Plan on paying for their college education or do you plan on the gov’t (taxpayers) bailing their college loans?
When you get almost to retirement age...just a few years left... working as hard as you ever have.... yeah, you want to leave/retire on your own terms, not because the person making the decision to lay you off can increase their bonus.
But I do believe in karma.

I was always amazed about that too. Especially if they've been there long enough to get 6 to 12 months sub pay.
I remember all my team members just sitting there when our manager was laying into us about our applications not passing a DR exercise. I was the only one who spoke up and pointed out that our team did an exceptional job escalating incidents, notifying management in conference calls/chats and troubleshooting what we could during the testing window. I stopped short of saying that it was management the failed but it was pretty obvious that it wasn't our issues as application programmers. She couldn't dispute the facts I presented with specific INCs we created and specific postings in chats that were totally ignored.
I think my co-workers pulling down $150 grand a year are living paycheck to paycheck and living in fear. I was in a low cost location making $100k per year and sitting on a million dollars just in my 401(k).
