Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

A return to thuggish behavior

As the economy slows, jobs become less abundant, and the power balance slowly returns in management’s favor, expect companies like BNY Mellon to return to strong-arming and intimidating employees.

Why? Because they smell an opportunity, and because they CAN.

It’s not wrong or right; it’s just the law of the jungle.

When your viewpoint leads you to refer to “power balance slowly returns in management’s favor” you really should be out and interviewing for another job. It’s not us and them. Yes, the bank has been poorly managed for 15 years but like it or not we’re all in the same boat.

You have a lot more confidence in the mental capacity of our leaders than I do.

No doubt. And I suspect we will find the new offshore opportunity to fulfill our staffing level issues….a place where they will work around the clock to do the needful.

Nah. I’ll do less for the company as they pay me less.

No, don’t “adjust your effort and time accordingly”… dedicate your personal effort and time on a job search. Figure your goals, polish your résumé, create action steps and follow them.

Eh. Let them try. They can’t really give less of a raise. 1-2 % sucks anyhow. Adjust your effort and time accordingly
