Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Office Disorder / Poor Communication

I was a contractor working within BNY Mellon offices during 2021. Had an interesting time there. Made a few connections in the office. I left BNY at the end of 2021.

My replacement, another contractor, was brought into my former office during late January / early February. After having lunch with a former BNY co-worker, it was related to me how my replacement will not have technology (access to Windows, mainframe, email, work related software, etc) until August 2022. Their contract expires September 2022.

So, I ask... "what are they doing all day?" Response... "they sit in their cubicle and chat on their cell phone throughout the day." Eek.

My own "new hire" BNY story. I was scheduled for MS Access training so to learn what databases I were to navigate through for my contract assignment. I was introduced to my trainer on a Tuesday morning, was told how they will return to my workstation before lunch that day to start this training with me. Hours went by and my trainer never returned. A team lead came by my cubical and asked "are you trained?" I said "no." Department team lead then walked away.

This routine continued for 10 days. On day 11 a different employee was tasked with training me. Yes. I did nothing for 8 hours over 10 days.

My agency at the time was ACS Solutions. This staffing firm is a great fit for BNY Mellon culture, since they too suffer from communication problems and lack oversight with how / where their contractors are being placed.

Absolutely the worst onboarding process of any company for which I’ve worked. It can take months to get all of the needed tools installed and technology support is automated to keep you away from a real person.

@2evl, I have no doubt this happened. When I was hired 20 years ago as a senior developer I went over a year before any of my code went into production. I had done some analysis and other work but I was no where near even 10% productive for a LONG time.

@2yml+1gi2Fz8D - so enlighten us. What did said team lead say each time they checked in and you received no training? No way this went on for weeks. And I highly doubt it will take 4 months for access. A couple weeks thanks to the tards in India doing it but be realistic

@vzf+1gi2Fz8D my team lead checked in on me multiple times a day (over the 10 days) asking if I were trained. At least once in the morning and once after lunch. I'm not complaining, just stating my experience... and relating my former department has a new contractor without tech access and was told they will not have it until August. Though their contract ends in September. I understand your support for BNY Mellon. Go Team.

MS Access??? That's the worst part of this whole situation.
Not surprised at all about the lead time to set up IDs. They clogged the system with requests for GF IDs instead of handling them through a bulk automated process.

@OP+1gi2Fz8D So when your trainer didn’t come back after a couple hours as expected , did you let your team lead know or just sit there doing nothing this whole time ? Now you’re on here complaining this happened over 10 days, but you sound like you also fit in with the environment you’re complaining so much about
