Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

It's a business do your shift then go home

Nobody cares about you the only thing that matters is that you have a job and are being paid to do it. Let's face it things are not going to get better only worse. The sooner we accept the better off we will be no point in being angry about changes that we have no say in.

This gang of idiots continues to play the Wall Street game because it's all they have left. In case no one noticed, they're in their sixties now. They want out and they need to retire. They were hoping the sh-- wouldn't hit the fan until they sold out but like a bad stink it emerged and their shares were cut almost in half. Now they're still trying to come up with a way to have their laughably antiquated systems do all things they should have been doing 25 years ago...by developing their own software instead of relying on proven solutions. It's like building a railroad tunnel where the crews are digging from either side and praying they meet at the right point, but instead it looks like they're on different tracks. And with the growth they keep adding more railroad cars. The train is about to hit a brick wall.

Do your best do what leadership asks and hopefully they will leave you alone. My leadership group leaves me be and I'm actively looking to leave the company at the moment. More cuts will inevitably be coming we want to be a technology driven company but we continue to sink money into horrible programs. We are not a software company and should not be trying to make programs that have already been done 1000 times better then anything our "developers" could come up with.

I did do my job, and at the end of the day chose to leave with a fatazz check instead of applying for positions that barely 9 mo later would be purged as well. much better off these days.

Bwahahahahaha, now, WE'RE on a mission: To encourage the best and brightest to take their talents elsewhere. So going forward, if you're in global or regional leadership, I advise that you go get a cashier job at Family Dollar when the boomerang comes flying back at you. And it always does. You regional blowhards need to recognize that you meet the same people on the way down that you do on the way up!

I finally left the toxic environment that was Whole Foods. I actually had 2 job offers. There are companies that are thriving, and who are happy to take those of us who escaped Whole Foods. People becoming team leaders that were sleeping with their coordinators, friends who grew up with ASTL's, hiring people who with no integrity just because they were someone's ex-husband. ASTL's that tell people they are in their bliss in their positions who are firing, demoting, and demoralizing team members. I'm thrilled to be out of the MA region. I'm thrilled to be working for a better company that values my work.

There is life outside of and after Whole Foods.

I have a better idea! Surf jobsites and network for a new job at a better company while you are on your WFM shift (whenever possible). Print up business cards that have your personal contact info and network on the floor with sales reps and even customers----you never know who's looking to hire. Then go home and update your resume and research new companies to work for----even just making a lateral move, or even a slight step down in a company that is being run well and can offer you a future is better than suffering through the hellish environment that WFM has become, and waiting and wondering when the ax is going to fall. Yes, that's definitely a better idea!

@pqt: Your post is good because it illustrates what the geniuses at global didn't count on after lying about how open and caring they are, how mission driven (barf) they are and so forth. People need to stop arguing with you and recognize that in business you should always be reflective and ask along the way "What did we do right, what did we do wrong, and how can we do better?" This executive team and board of directors haven't done that. Instead they have used the core values propaganda to string people along, giving media tours of how wonderful they are while failing miserably to invest in technology along the way, properly consolidate operations, demand accountability from these absurd and unnecessary "regional leaders" and properly plan for the long-term future of the company. Your post makes it clear that when you do people wrong, they will not just go quietly. They tell everyone on their contact list to take their business elsewhere. They post their opinions and their stories. And some will work relentlessly to create chaos from within and gum up the works. It's called karma, and it's a bitch. Revenge is a dish best served cold. I don't advocate it, but I am observing it. Waves of massive layoffs and plans that are poorly communicated (or not communicated at all) are not the sign of great leaders who know what they're doing. Duh.

I actually have enjoyment in my day, why would I leave now, the best part is a month ago I had my JD, exceeded in all but two sections and got a raise. Now that I think about it maybe they gave me that raise to rile everyone up and jump ship so they can bring new naive people in

Your not really creating any havoc... except in your mind..which is keeping you from connecting with those great companies out there that you talk about...the guy that made the original post is right..the company doesn't give a fuc about you and needs you even less then that... hanging around to "turn things around" or even funnier, to "create havoc" is impotent nonsense...your f---n goose was cooked along time ago pal...let it the fuc go..sorry man

lol.... spoken like a true store team leader, lol probably mine. Actually beg to differ!! The fact that a company that spews over and over about how they treat there workers, reiterates it numerous times in the GIG book, the fact they are lying and not being open with employees about the changes coming soon is deplorable. As employees we can do something about it. I am, I am telling every one and everybody I know what is going on, so it will spread and all the employees should find out in the next few weeks. And WF will be scrambling. I been letting customers know for weeks why our customers service has gone away, why they see so many changes and not enough people on the floor to assist them. Yes they are a corporation, and yes they will go on, but they will no longer be the super power they once were and especially in my region, there is way to much competition in the healthy food market. Fred Meyer-QFC-PCC-Trader Joes they are all selling the same products that were once special to WF. The vendors are getting shelf space in those stores and thats all that matters. In the end I see in a bout five years, they will take those 365 stores and that will be the norm and only the large profitable stores will stay, all those not pulling weight and making money will be gone. Those days of high wages with the company are over. They are going to automation just like everyone else. Thats why they did the first round of layoffs, overworked us through the holidays, to get those fancy checkout computers, that are already enable to do the replenishment ordering. All buyers -specialist will be gone and although everyone in my region will be brought up to wage in our region about $13.75. Dont expect anymore than that. Luckily this aint my life, but I will create as much havoc as I can before I go. Because decent people who gave 10+ years to this company that have wife and kids deserve a heads up on possible elimination of their job. In this area if someone learns this news at the last minute it can cause great destruction to ones self, their family, etc etc. And there ARE plenty of jobs that make you happy and treat you well obviously you have never experienced that, sorry you have never had that chance

Just to clarify: I think that EVERYONE looking for satisfying work and a good career find another company other than this one.

That's what people say who work for loser companies with crappy employee relations. It's an emotional beat-down. Find another employer. You know, we spend a lot of time at work. You don't have to jump for joy when that alarm clock rings but it should be something you enjoy and get satisfaction from overall. True statement.

If you want a higher power, look elsewhere. No job or anything outside of yourself can make you happy.
