Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Why no statement from regional about the fired/suspended store team leaders in the mid Atlantic?

Any updates?

A TM told me in OH that during their Team Leader meeting that those people got let go but did not go into details.

I've heard some were really great and others, not so much. At the end of the day, a business treats it all black or white. If you gotta make cuts, it doesn't matter who is hard working or lazy. The longer you work there, the more you make, and if they can cut you to hire 2 newbies, or put in shelf pushers, they will.

@KF7JNyj-2cki try working a day or 2 in the said lazy departments and learn the products then maybe open your mouth about what is deserved and what is not. Ha!

My wife was a PFDS TL for about a year before moving on and leaving wfm. It really is the toughest job in the company. No one in their right mind can deny that.

Without a doubt, Prepared Foods TMs work the hardest. The most exposure for HD/Everclean, customers watching their food being prepared, keeping the bars full when customers do NOT move, the largest teams, daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedules, temp logs, time logs, cook logs, cool logs, Good Organics, trying the put away deliveries into zero space and equipment that has been neglected for ages. STL bonus anyone, yeah don't fix or replace any of the equipment/small wares. The PFDS TL's job is harder than STL/ASTLs and harder than other teams. The good ones should be paid the highest. No STL wants to deal with prep foods!

On SuccessFactors there are 5 open positions for store team leader in the D.C. Area so I assume these store team leaders were let go.

At this point, any mass layoffs or firings are all about the budget. Find any way to get rid of highly paid individuals and replace them with cheaper help. That goes for STLs and anyone else. There's always someone who'll do it for less.

I work Grocery and find it very hard to believe it's the hardest. So much cleaning in the fresh areas.

"Moving forward"....love when they pull out the corporate speak..all that means is somebody screwed up but wont be held accountable (whereas if a regular tm gets a cheezy email complaint with no shred of proof, watch the write fly)..uppercrust at my store make errors and have massive misspunch fraud going on but "leadership"looks the other way cuz they hired the fools

Most here seem to be missing the simple, basic logistics of at- work etiquette. The fired folks are protected from public humiliation. No one is gonna get publicly ridiculed these days without some form of legal ramifications. In other words, the fired folks could sue WFM for disclosing details about their employment to a bunch of hungry, angry, bitter employees.

Put down your rocks and front an aisle.

I think you're all wrong. It's the marketing folks that are the laziest. They had such a sweet thing going for so many years. When they cut jobs and had to transfer to actual wfm positions they were all shocked and miserable. Now, our metro marketing TL is just plain useless making 50k... south region raleigh metro.

I think we're getting off topic by arguing about which department works the hardest. The point of this post is that our Corporate Masters have not seen fit to enlighten us about why the STLs have been pulled out during the busiest time of the year. The fact that it has been nearly a month with no word at all is pretty interesting. It's almost like they're trying to cover something up.

WB in my store does the absolute minimum. They all seem to have attitudes and could care less to help any other department. Every department works their butts off at my store with the exception of WB. Since labor has been cut so much we have no choice but to work like slaves.

I've worked all departments in my decades at WFM. Grocery and customer service are the most work. That is not debatable.

I am a WB TL and I work my a-- off everyday, as does the rest of my team..I also have helped other teams on multiple occasions..I'm sorry that you have lazy team members at your store.

I don't understand why everyone thinks this is so wrong or a scam. I think it is a smart business decision and all stores should do it. Aren't some stores already at one store one labor budget? Gain sharing is a joke, the two main teams that get it (whole body and specialty) are the laziest teams in the store. They don't work for gain sharing, it is handed to them. Granted whole body has to have a lot of knowledge but what good is it if they are hanging out in the backroom or roaming the store chatting all day. The three teams that work the hardest and get pretty much nothing is prep foods, produce and grocery. I get why labor was cut, too many people standing around doing nothing ruined it for all of us while the hard workers continued to be overworked to pick up their slack. I would rather see gain sharing go away and give back a few more labor hours to prep foods, produce and grocery. The rest of the teams have all the labor they need. I still see them standing around doing nothing while my team is busting it trying to get it done. To those of you in WB and specialty that are hard workers ^5 to you, there are a few on each team and I do not mean to offend you. To all the lazy workers, I do mean to offend you, WFM pays well whether you like what they are doing or not so earn it and stop putting your burden on your co workers, that is who you are hurting, not WFM.

The meeting this weekend was them all getting drunk and wasting money that most likely belongs to team members.

Regional has been complicit from the beginning with this nonsense... which is why you'll not see a statement from them. Or if so, it will be more rubbish about 'moving forward' and 'piggybacking' or 'finding synergy' with a bunch of crooks, or whatever. If you 'circle back' you'll find that labor shuffling has been going on since the 90s when gainsharing began.

Yes that's what I want to know. Is this just a rumor or is it really happening. Maybe after the meeting this weekend in Rockville will know more.
