Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Any layoffs expected this week?

From what I can see, the earliest date speculated is August 19. Does that mean we are safe at least for this week?

On a related note, how sad is it that now we measure our job security in weeks? I still remember a time when job security was a thing at BNYM. I guess those days are long gone.

So I hear that now employees are being told of their impending job eliminations?? I wish that this was the case for those of us let go in January, instead of the humiliation of being led out like criminals!! Hopefully everyone is going to get the same sub pay package. Still wondering if a class action will be happening for age discrimination?

In the company 20 years. Highly regarded and senior enough too. What goes on at my level would shock most if not all employees. Do not walk away without a payment. Do not make it easy on charlie to cull numbers with no cost. Thats what the instruction is.

HR reps are visiting our worksite all this week. Maybe informing managers and giving guidance for what is to come.

PREPARE and be ready to walk out with your personal belongings, and your head held high.

No slammed doors, no tears, just come back here and tell us about it.

Remember: it’s not you, it’s THEM. Have a nice few months to wind down and get through holidays, then embark on the next, BEST chapter of your life.

I have an employee from hll that considers me to be the manager from hll. We keep not getting laid off. I think we’ll wind up the very last two people left in the department, like a horror story or science fiction novel where we are the only people left on a planet.

Please please please BNY: lay at least one of us off.

Time for a task force. We need a conference room dedicated to one of those FBI type walls plastered with "Have you seen me" flyers for all the employees that are vanishing. Start a 1-800 tip line.

Heard from several sources. 8/19. And it fits the model. 2 weeks prior to month end pay cycle. Good luck until then.

Global investment banks are shedding tens of thousands of jobs as falling interest rates, weak trading volumes and the march of automation create a brutal summer for the sector.
Almost 30,000 lay-offs have been announced since April at banks including HSBC, Barclays, Société Générale, Citigroup and Deutsche Bank. Most of the cuts have come in Europe, with Deutsche accounting for more than half the total, while trading desks have been hit hardest.
In New York City, jobs in commodity and securities trading fell 2 per cent in June from the year before, a loss of about 2,800 positions, according to the New York Department of Labor.

Reality: many of us have become obsolete, just like other industries. And just like those industries, we are hoping it’s not true, and frantic that our company is moving on without us.

BNY is managing this very badly, but it’s time for some of us - and we know who we are - to move on, if we can. Time to change our skills with education and training, which we’ll need anyway. Then decide if BNY is good enough for us, or if another company should benefit by our wisdom, experience, and skills.

We can do it!

Not BNY, but this was in the news about a recent event: “ ... but guards on his unit were working extreme overtime shifts to make up for staffing shortages the morning of ... ”.

Thats how bad things can get.

My understanding is that if you received a “Be” rating I would be worried.

Not sure about this week, but next week for sure. We are all cleaning our desks and wondering who will be left. Such anxiety, very sad. Some people not handling this well: acting out, snapping at co-workers, blaming managers. And in at least one case, blaming the entire work site. How bad can this get?
