BNYM not committed to employee development and growth

I know this has prob been said before, but it bears repeating, bnym could care less about your career path or your professional growth. This is a company that just cant be bothered, unless you are one of the few that's actually in a good position on a decent team in a decent dept. If you are a 20s something fresh out of college, and bnym has you involved with TED talks, WIN/WIT, scavenger hunts, or hackathons , then you are prob one of the lucky ones that's in a good place with this company. As for the rest of us, well, forget about it! For the average BNYM employee, It's every person for themselves. The average run of the mill BNYM employee struggles every day to get the right information they need to do their job successfully. There is no documentation or procedures. Everyone just does their own thing to get the job done. The teams don't operate as real teams. They operate as a bunch of desperate and scared individuals hoping they either are or are not the next to be let go. There is no real training, you are just expected to know it. If you don't know it, they will actually tell you to go on Youtube and learn it. Yes, Youtube, i'm being serious!!! You'll be working with coworkers using state of the art windows 7 desktops that can barely function, and you'll meet some people who work all day to get reliable information out of an excel spreadsheet from 1996, just because that's how it is there. Dont buy into the hype that BNYM is this leading edge technology company. They are the furthest thing from that. They cant even get Wifi to work properly.

Don't work for this company.

Not connected for TED talks, WIN/WIT, scavenger hunts, or hackathons. Is there any chance that holding things together for the team during Cornhole Week makes me “one of the lucky ones that's in a good place with this company” ? If not, maybe I’ll just take a chill pill and burn a week cheering on my invited coworkers as they compete and ai cheer on company time...

Odd way to achieve cost containment that...

Moving from 70’s FAX to cutting edge late 80’s Excel would actually be a huge step. We could all donate FAX machines from our basement to free BONY from replacement costs to focus the spend on future technologies..

The company could not operate without excel, everything is excel, the biggest joke is the belief they are a technology company, gone all digital. Newsflash, saving an excel attachment as a PDF and signing if digitally is not a digital transformation.

Let's face facts. I was a long time worker with excellent reviews, but was just old enough and made too much money in their minds, and was let go in 2019. I was also not in the know. If you are in the know (friends or worked in another Company together) you are sitting pretty. It doesn't matter your performance, ability, or knowledge. You don't have to worry about advancing or requiring to look for additional training, because those are all the requirements you need. Believe me, I saw it first hand. Several undeserving employees given shocking advancements and titles for just being in the know. What a joke. My hope is that it will all catch up to this failing Company.

As far as training, I’ve observed that the offshore IT workers in my discipline had training matrices and were given the opportunity to attend training.

In the U.S., that was not the case.
