Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Is it possible they don’t lay you off with a B/E rating?

I was given a below expectations rating by my manager and was told it is just “optics” and nothing would happen, especially since our client is an important one to our group. I’m wondering if people have gotten B/E ratings in the past and have not been let go?

As a manager, I refused to give a fake BE. It hurts promotion prospects, bonus payments, pay rises and can lead to a layoff. Save the BE for those that truly deserve it, and not to make a number. Would we be giving a fake EE or E ? No, I thought not.

Last time all BE's were supposed to go per Charlie. There were exceptions but the manager had to state a case for why you couldn't be let go (only one in department, working on critical projects, etc).

They lay off people with and without BEs. I know plenty laid off that never got a BE, and plenty kept that have one or more BEs. It just depends on the composition of your department. They protect essential employees, and everyone else is in the layoff pool.

Let's take another perspective: Do you think BE is to help you bec they think you are good but need new 'optics'??? If you don't change your optics, you're shown the exit?

Was giving fist BE for more than 20 years 2 week before separation with no clear explanation. I think they delay with my evaluation do not let me time to fight them back.

Was given a BE and was told it was more or less optics, Chuckie needed 10% but my manager assured me it would not have any impact on my raise or bonus. 2 months later I got laid off.

What are the criteria to be layoff? Two BEs?

We have the artificial BE too, but unfortunately the last person to get it was laid off. The two people who wish they'd get laid off with a package are still here. We don't have many people left in our group, as there haven't been any new hires since 2011. Those who left haven't been replaced.

They are trying to annoy people so they leave. Do less and less.

I’m relieved to hear that but apparently according to my manager he was forced to pick someone from a certain level (let’s say j-L) and not from the levels below. It made me think why that level in particular, unless they are trying to do away with the higher paid workers especially since our group is top heavy.

Nothing happened to the guy in my group that was BE last year. It’s someone else’s turn this year & I expect that person to be safe as well.

Lots still here with the artificial BE. We pass it around the group so everyone takes a hit “for the team”. If they were to lay off all BE, my whole team would be gone.
