Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Is it just me or do things keep getting worse and worse for employees?

It's like all the uncertainty, frustration, and stress are being amplified each month. I'm not sure how much more of it I can take. Sometimes I think that resigning and going to work at any fast food restaurant would be a better alternative to what we have now.

Maybe it really is time for me to leave...

+1 on staying for the severance. It would have to become Devil's Island itself for me to walk away from 60 weeks of paid time off.

@9zbo - If folks have been with the bank for any length of time, most of them wont leave because of the rock-solid and generous severance package. I certainly hung in there until severed and I can tell you it was worth the wait. I actually prayed silently for two years to be severed, then my time came and I was ecstatic. I knew the proverbial ‘hand-writing was on the wall’ given all the new policies, and that it would just be a matter of time before being cut. So I prepared myself and my family for the inevitable. At the same time, I also refused to participate in feelings of low self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness and giving into the attitude that there is no life outside BAC. I knew there was. I was professionally prepared, am highly educated, and landed a new k–ler gig on MY terms within a few months of casually looking. My feeling is that it’s the companies loss, not mine. Just saying!

I feel for everyone here who is frustrated — whether it’s being forced to come back into the office, the lack of recognition, the company politics, or the small (and sometimes non-existent) raises, I’m sure people are feeling exhausted, drained, and often unappreciated. That said, if life is so miserable at the bank, why do people stay? I read posts about people who want to quit, but they don’t. I read posts about people who say they would be treated better at other companies, but they don’t leave. There are so many opportunities outside the bank, so I’m curious as to why people complain and talk about leaving, but stay. I’m purely asking out of curiosity.

@fFx... Honestly, you won’t need to settle for a fast-food job. I was let go some time ago and never batted an eye. Within a short amount of time, I found a much better job (slightly lower salary but stellar working conditions with TRUE work-life balance) with another financial institution (who prides themselves on never having to lay off staff) and I am still getting open jobs sent to me via email from other banks. When I landed my new job, I received an offer from a public utility the same day. Don’t sell yourself short. Your career at BAC is invaluable to a new hiring company. Take your time and probe for new gigs. With this economy, there truly is a lot of work out there. You’ll be fine if you choose to pursue something else.
