Just curious, for New Yorkers who got laid off, how was your experience with NY unemployment? Did they approve you quickly? Did you collect immediately? Did they make you come into the office? How long did it take you to get a new job, and if you got one, was it through unemployment or through your own search? Also put age group from 20 to 40, 41 to 55 and over 55. In case I am a "chosen one", I will know what to expect.

Don’t know about Operations jobs in the US being like the factories in the 80's leaving to other countries. OPs jobs are like 40% of BONY staff and they’re having a field day cutting technology. How you gonna automate OPs without technology?
Its a waste of time. They make you show a log that you are looking for a job. Gloomy place. Once your last unemployment deposit comes that is it, you wont hear from them again till you get a copy of Form xx for your taxes so they can collect some more money off you. Unemployment office doesn’t help you in job search, you are on your own, they will request a proof that you are looking for a job, in terms of positions available, I would agree that it depends on the line of business you are in, IT and close to 60, very, very problematic ...
Finding a job is tough especially at year end. Most companies are not hiring. Most large banks are laying off as well. It depends on what type of position you are focusing on. If it is in Operations I wish you Good Luck.
They pay quickly after you apply. You need to request payments every week, by phone or online, confirming that you are still unemployed. In 4.5 month that I was collecting unemployment I was called to office twice. 1st time within month, second time about 8 weeks later.
