Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

parm crack

Whose brain child was this? Why do we make a big deal about cutting a block of cheese every year? I just don't get it. Customers want faster checkout lines so they can gtfo the store and get on with their day. They don't care that some supermarket cheese rube is cutting a wheel of cheese in the back of the store while people whop and holler over nothing.

Pssh, my store had 30 senior citizens, 60 Asian college students, 5 transgendered cheese enthusiasts, 7 emotional support dogs and 1 medical service horse. They all bought cheese. Everyone was mildly entertained and the specialty department broke.sales.records.

We do this for "fun" but long story short, we really do this for $.

At my store people gathered around around n recorded the event. Got samples, shirts and were having fun. Some people dont care about fast check outs. Some people got time and money to spend. Your negativity n short sight will never get you anywhere. Every event that wfm does, some people just enjoy the experience. And thats what wfm is about, wfm tries to give customers a unique experience.

Exactly. It's an effective marketing event that creates revenue for the company. It's silly, but always draws spectators that buy the product. It's basically just an active demo. Whomever thought of this idea should get a raise and a promotion.

The first year I remember it happening I believe we were trying to get the Guinness record for most parm cracked or some ridiculous thing.

You may think it's dumb but some customers eat that sh– up and we sell the sh– out of that cheese. It may be one of the only good sales decisions whole foods actually makes. Dumb as it is.

I attended a parmiggianno cracking event at WF in Michigan and it was very interesting. They almost sold the entire 85lbs of cheese. The store was very generous with some wine samples, charcuterie and giardennera samples. They even gave out free t shirts celebrating the event. I’d say WF created a great deal of good will at this event. Well done!
