WFH for next two weeks

Who else is working from home for the next two weeks? I arrived at the office this morning only to find out I was selected to WFH. The email came out at 9:30PM last night. Why so late?? I’m not working then and I don’t have BNY email on my phone. Any emails from overnight I get in the morning. Monday I was asked for my cell phone number as I thought it would be used for this but I guess not.

I think you guys are confused about these management roles. The Executive Committee sticks their thumb up their buutt. The Management Committee pulls it out and then decides whose mouth to put it in.

I'm a member of the Executive Committee and I don't approve of this attitude AT ALL. I'll be instructing my team to install more spyware on the laptops in the near future.

My team is not doing any work since “Smokey and the bandit” is on hbo this after noon. Attendance mandatory.

@7nvx+13V1OKGa we can't do work anyway until they iron out infrastructure problems. So until that's in place we're not going to frustrate ourselves by wasting time with disconnections, lost data etc. What's the point?

@7zoi+13V1OKGa Truly discouraging that an entire team would purposely not do their work when the company is clearly struggling to bring its entire business online in the face of a crisis. While your team decides to neglect their work, there are others who are working double to ensure we can continue to provide our services. With this attitude of yours, there is no wonder you are posting on a website largely dominated by workers who are constantly afraid of being laid off. It saddens me to know I work with people who have this mentality.

My team have decided to not do any work until BNY gets the infrastructure in place.

This morning has been pretty bad. My co-workers and I have been kicked off of VPN several times and when we are connected, WebEx doesn’t load and email slow to update. Will only get worse as the week goes on.

It’s not my bandwidth. All my colleagues are having the same issues. This will get worse because by Friday they want everyone working from home. How can BNY prepare for this? This can be a financial risk issue.

@6ygu+13V1OKGa perhaps it's your bandwidth

There is nooo way BNY networks can handle the traffic of majority locations all working remotely as of Friday. Screens freezing up, getting kicked off the network, etc. Can’t work like this.

No positive test yet. However I am one of the few unfortunate people that BNY considers " expendable" who get to come into the office everyday and risk me and my families health. If I do get sick with this virus, best believe BNY is going to have a lawsuit on it's hands.

How many employees are coughing and feeling unwell?

My new job is 100% remote. The entire company works remotely. With good communication channels and regular touch point meetings this works beautifully. My team churns out work at an incredible pace. You can start at 9:00 and end at 5:00 if you want, no time wasted on commuting, nearly perfect work/life balance, work in your underwear while smoking a cigar... Just get your stuff done and stay in touch with the team.

At a place like BNY where a lot of people have a preconceived notion that working from home is a "glorified vacation", it's just not going to work. A lot of folks are disgruntled and/or lazy so they'll take advantage of it. Some people will work honestly but aren't committed to the kind of communication that makes a fully remote team function. And others would rather work in the office or they're convinced WFH "just doesn't work" so they won't even try.

WFH absolutely does work, but the company has to support it from the top down.

A glorified paid vacation. The one's who weren't the chosen ones that have to come in and risk illness coming and going and bring God knows what back to their families while everyone else stays safe should be taken into consideration in some way..it's really not fair, but then again.......just sayin'!

I honestly think they are trying to figure this out and do the right thing.
Problem is you have a bunch of bozo’s at the top and it’s clearly a massive cluster.
This is moving faster then their brains which isn’t hard. By the time they make a decision the world has changed and a new email comes up.
They should just see what JPM, MS etc is doing and copy it. This way no one has to think.

Too little, too late? What will be the fallout from management's lack of decisiveness? The emails from senior managers notifying employees they are now taking action to allow most, if not all, employees to work from home during the pandemic are coming in waves to protect them from the number of employees who have been speaking up about feeling unwell. Perhaps these employees have the flu or a cold or perhaps the Coronavirus could have been rapidly spreading throughout our office during the last few weeks while management refused to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation or address employees who were openly coughing or , like Typhoid mary, known for not washing their hands upon leaving the restroom.

To the person that tested positive for corona yesterday, I'm sorry that this happened to you. I wish you well and get better. This should not have happened to you. Go ahead with the lawsuit.what city are you in?

50% of business critical staff were supposed to start testing remote access from yesterday. So how come almost every senior leader is mysteriously in the “lucky” 50%, leaving the rest of us to get sick?

All those essential employees can stop coming to me with their questions. Figure out how to do your job. I'm done spoon feeding management's favored employees.

All business essential employees have been told to WFH in Pittsburgh. The rest of us are expendable I guess.

Total cluster in my department. Manager has me lugging supplies from home to work every day and suggested that if we enact contingency plans I should cart myself to the nearest UPS store to drop off mailings every other day. Um...no. I kinda can't wait to see what happens if someone in Pittsburgh gets Corona. Open office environment plus a coworker that everyone knows doesn't wash her hands after using the restroom is the perfect petri dish. Surprised that people aren't sick more often since we made the move up to Mellon One.

At this point all businesses are working from home or remotely. Most started a week or two weeks ago. Bank of NY can’t even figure out how to do this. Only a matter of time until it hits the collaborative open floor plan. Thanks Charlie.

When I first started working at BNY there was a rampant problem of people not washing their hands after taking a dump. Like, for about three months every time I used the restroom there was someone in there who took a sh!t and didn't wash afterwards. Apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed because they put about 12 "wash your hands" signs in every restroom after a while.

So yeah, if anyone in this office gets the Corona we've all got the Corona. Don't touch ANYTHING in this place. NOTHING. Wipe down every surface with some Clorox, bring your own mouse and keyboard. Put a condom on your chair. Don't. Touch. ANYTHING.

My area has several people openly coughing the last couple weeks, some not covering their mouths. All started with one who traveled on vacation recently which opens the potential it could be Coronavirus. Does management say anything? Not a peep. Manager suddenly works from home along with pet staff that needs to be kept safe.

Re WFH - Managers can't give staff notice because Managers aren't given any notice. Senior Management is handling this terribly. No thought for staff, they will claim this is about staff health and welfare. C-ap. It's all about the $. Staff are being asked to use their own laptops or desktops, personal equipment to keep $$$ for shareholders...disgrace. I'm checked out.

I don't know about a business resiliency test, we're all in sort of a 'job resiliency test' to see how long we will actually have them

I got that same email, didn’t know until this morning. It’s part of business resiliency test should we all have to WFH. The email said your manager was supposed to notify you but I didn’t hear a peep from my manager. Haven’t talked to them in two months. Oh well.
