Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

How to get laid off?

I am trying to get laid off, with a package. Any hints on how to do this?

Should I put myself forward for selection, or make a few deliberate f*** ups ?

Talk to your manager, something along the lines of "look if Name-X-your-MD's team has to lose someone, then I'm OK if it's me" . You can't ask for a package per se, but you can say you're not going to go ape if you get cut.
Who knows you may save someone's job who really doesn't want to be cut.
Just be polite and professional

with the so much wrong in the company - rating people BE deliberately to lay them off, if some reason the management wants to save money if they do fire, then definitely a law suit should follow to expose the bad management in the company.

Person in GIA “eff’d” up and got fired. Looks like a message is being sent and any attestation you do and you don’t follow through, they are using that to fire people which priceless to them.

If you are close to 50 and have more than ten years dedicated to BNYM then you are already on the list.

Simple, if your boss hates you, you are all set.

Tell your direct manager that if he/she has to make a tough choice eliminating any positions, that you would not mind to be that choice.

Can you get sub pay if laid off while on corrective action?

Don't worry little buddy, if you work hard and do your best you'll be laid off soon enough.

Ask politely, like you are “taking one for the team”. Then, follow up: you may be competing for a spot on the layoff list. Meanwhile, you could get the dreaded BE, since they know you could be out the door anyway.

They may surprise you and ask what it would take to make you happy. Consider that in advance, so you are ready with a number. You don’t want to be in shock and miss an opportunity.

And, consider just looking for another job, before you give up on the one you have. Some have exhausted their sub pay and are not yet re-employed. That may change your mind. Maybe a bad job is better than no job at all.

When the time comes, they would rather let a person go that wants it. It just might take a while, since such decisions are made well in advance. Thats why you should be polite, since you don't want to make your situation worse before you get your “freedom”.

Good luck!
