Why do I get messages to accept cookies now? I don't think I trust this site anymore.

Websites use cookies to track your user preferences in order to serve you personalized ads, and it’s not the data by which anyone can actually be identified.
Plus, this is privately owned website not owned by the bank (hundreds of other forums here), so the only way for the bank to see anything would be to serve a court order to the site. Those are issued for major law violations (like threats or something like that).
They were always tracking you. Its just now they are bringing it to your attention
You can thank Californian legislators for that, they recently issued a law by which all sites need to have that consent form.
