Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

points freeze

In an incredible show of ugliness whole foods corporate has decided to freeze points starting in january so those 3 months that we as TM worked putting our lives at risk as well as our loved ones were for nothing!! No one went down to zero as is policy you just went back to january points

A good TM who is chronically late is not a good TM but I agree that we have some real t–ds that are always on time. I agree that Whole Foods has done the wrong thing here. In my store though everyone who was absent the most are the Tm's we could do without anyways. In many ways, even with about half the staff, we were being more productive without working nearly as hard as usual. This is largely because we got a lot of help from PFDS's good TM's since they had so little to do, help from temp workers and Amazon shoppers. S also helps face grocery every day. We were even more productive during the record breaking sales weeks with 2/3rds of our Team leaders absent. If Whole Foods was smart they would take this as a lesson. We could get away with way less people if we really operated as "one store one team" We also don't need to be spending money on travel and meetings that can be done with zoom and we should be able to separate Tm's who are not productive without months or years of red tape.

the system was put in place by WF and at least in my store TM were encouraged if needed to take time off come in late leave early etc... there never was an idea that WE were taking advantage of anything concerning the three months of this policy. TM were not shamed for doing this and most of them are fantastic TM who have worked for the company a long time. also the idea that chronic lateness is equivalent to a poor TM is a huge generalization. I have worked with TM who are chronically late who are fantastic and I have worked with TM who are always on time but do the bare minimum. By the way this also works for TL. My TL is late every day but i would never have her replaced because she is top notch. The point is that within those three months all TM should have gone down to zero points. That WF Global decided to change the policy without notification is wrong. If they had said listen there will not be points accrued during these three months but your previous points are frozen then there is not an argument to be made. They did not do this. You DO NOT do that to heroes as the shirt says.

As an ATL with zero points (and I didn't come in late or call out during the entire COVID point forgiveness, I worked more OT to make up for all the absences) I was also mildly outraged by this. On one hand it isn't really going to hurt anyone with generally good attendance. It will hopefully allow us to get rid of some people who have chronic bad attendance. These are always TMs that do the bare minimum when they show up anyway.

The only thing I think would really be a bummer is if a good TM with good attendance gets screwed over by a string of bad luck. I think it should go on a case by case basis. We had a few FT TMs that worked once or twice the entire time we had point forgiveness and 3 TMs that did not work at all and one who only worked before the store was open. Before covid they had 3-5.5 points (6 is separation in our region). Except for 1 TM their excuses for being absent had nothing to do with COVID. One guy had "3 flat tires" for example. However we also had people with 3-5 points that did not call off or come in late the entire time and their points should have fallen off in June but now not until October. It's super c-appy of Whole Foods and they should come up with a better solution. This is clearly designed to get people separated.

Random side note. TM's that did take advantage of the point forgiveness and missed a majority of their shifts are already having a hard time adjusting. We have 3 Tms who racked up 3.5 points in just one week so they will weed themselves out anyway.

You seem like someone who probably took advantage of the system. The point system is pretty generous its hard to get fired for points if you just show up for work.
