Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

The problem with Pluralsight training

You are expected to do 2 hours of video training a week. If you want to follow along with the training and actually try to learn, it’s going to take more than 2 hours. Also, maybe it’s just me, but I wasn’t given any guidance on specific training, or given any assignments that involved new tech. People learn by doing. This is all for show and useless.

It looks like they populate over to the MyLearning database so its part of your transcript.
Definitely take anything related to programming or querying language like SQL or Python if you haven't already.

These classes are a huge plus actually, and we are getting paid to take them... its meant to be done during the workday. Not sure what the complaints are about really.

I agree, if you don’t know what would help you in your current job, may as well learn something that would help you in your next job. You may need it.

I like the classes, but until you can use what you learn on the job, you can’t rally apply what you are learning. So far the bank hasn’t made that connection available

The courses are actually pretty good, and one thing you can do is go learn what you might need at a new job.
If you're having a bad day and don't want to bother, pick some business class that you can leave playing with the sound muted and ignore it.
