Retirement Package 20+ years

I heard management considering packages for employees with 20+ years with company to mitigate potential fallout related to laying many ‘senior’ people off. Has anyone heard anything similar? More details?

Unlikely. The bank is fearful that too many might take it. We like to control who can and can’t leave.

Personally I can see both sides but it’s sad they are trying to keep people here that want to leave. Just reboot the whole thing. Deferred comp is great for the company during a talent war but when you are shrinking it is terrible for the company and there is little natural attrition.

These stories crop up every few years, but they are a bunch of bunk. They haven't done this for YEARS. One of the sub-companies did that about 25 years ago that they lost so much talent they vowed never again. Recently, sometimes, they are letting people volunteer to be laid off. They NEVER did that in the past, but with the right manager, that is possible. I DID ask once if you volunteer to be marked BE that you don't get the separation package. I don't know if that is true or not, but since being BE is a sure path to getting laid off, that, in itself might not be an option.

Anyone with ONLY 20 years though is unlikely to get a package. haha

Let me guess? You've been working there 15 to 20+ years. You think you're old and unemployable, a victim. I suggest you pick up a copy of the book "Biology of Belief." The thoughts in your mind on a moment-to-moment basis have the power to build up or tear down your physical and mental health.
Change your belief system. The future offers you new stuff that’s not even evolved at this moment. There’s so many new jobs, new industries, and new technologies evolving everyday.

Companies don't care any longer. Even if they get sued, it will cost them a few million vs. paying out many million with a package. Those days are gone. No one has money to give out during covid time. Best to move on to the next rumor.
