I got an invite for 2/1 which says “ catch-up”?? Thoughts?

Got the call. It happened the exact same way as others—on Friday, my manager said they wanted to “catch up” with me on Monday. I’m happy to not be working there anymore, as I was planning to leave soon anyway.

No meetings for me, but others were receiving meeting invites on Friday late afternoon for today, with the subject along the lines of "Let's Catch Up". Why the company would telegraph the pending layoffs on Friday, letting people think about it all weekend. Shameful.

Anybody have any meetings scheduled yet, that you think may be it? I’m still waiting, but nothing yet.

I would love to know this too. I got BE and just want to get it over with. My manager is still inviting me to meetings over the new few weeks and we have a major project in February. Is it possible she will be told on Monday or if she doesn’t know at this point, it probably won’t be Monday?

For those of us working remotely 100%, how do they fire us? Random meeting invite on the calendar? Or random phone call?

My manager has a horrible habit of calling my personal cell phone directly, rather than my company desk phone....if I get a random call, I might not answer it.....do they have the balls to fire us over skype chat, and then immediately disable our logins? :)

Some people have said the manager calls/terminates directly...but I can't imagine any of the managers in my management chain being able to formulate a concise sentence and provide adequate severence/cobra information.

This will be a significant year for layoffs. The company is trying to get 1/3 of jobs in offshore locations, 1/3 in mid cost locations in the US, and 1/3 in NYC as a cost savings measure, in addition to automating as much as possible. Every area will see layoffs, and if you're rated BE you are likely at the top of the list.

For the person who asked about fired versus laid off- unless you've participated in misconduct or something truly egregious, you will probably be laid off. It's much less risky for the company.

For the person asking if their manager knows about their layoff- yes.

My supervisor is still giving me projects to do and talking about future events and my involvement within our team. I got a below expectations and wouldn’t be surprised if I was laid off. Does my supervisor know about layoffs on the team ahead of time and he is trying to be nice or will the layoffs be a surprise to him if I’m picked? He’s a pretty low level manager.

Watch out in treasury services technology, some folks have personal interest and bringing in consultants via shady companies to make money under the table while firing US employees.

None of us should be surprised. We as mgrs were told January and possibly July are layoff months. They think they did us all a favor in 2020 by stopping them. And the BE ratings are how they selected. FYI, our mgrs were told a certain % needed to be given up for this which is why most hot bs ratings but layoffs weren’t based off this year. It was based off last year. What you had at mid and end of year 2019. Anyone BE was being targeted

I just wish they’d get this over with. This is THE MOST demoralizing thing I’ve been through.

Another BE person here. 2nd time around. What are the grounds for firing v. Getting layed off? I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong and feel both BE were unjustified. Thoughts?

if it is true, same old annual ritual. Nothing will be new. What I feel bad is when I see capable folks getting fired whereas some of the bootlickers of the decision makers somehow manage to stay.

Fund Accounting, not much left in our unit. They going to address that we have as many management as workers, we have a 1 to 1 ratio.

Since when is BNY Mellon not making money? Until they value their employees they will always struggle. Management resembles pigs feeding at a trough...

Expect a few days.
I heard the 12 th.
Why are people surprised- there are layoffs every year. It’s how they run the bank.
Most of last year was on hold due to covid. You have last year and this year.
It’s across they board. It’s cost reduction.
If BK wasn’t such a horrific company they might make money and not lay people off.

How do you know? Which area will be affected? What roles? Spill the beans...there is a lot of fear for some and excitement for others and constant anxiety plagues this company and culture. Please be kind and don’t throw out conspiracy theories. People in this company and around the world have been through enough this year. If you could backup your statement it would be appreciated.
