In our group they always dished out the bonuses to employees in NYC since they all ate lunch and went to happy hour together. Those of us in Pittsburgh and Upstate NY almost always went without. And I know mainframe developers who never got bonuses even though they were very competent.
My team received 2% on exceeds and that was only because we got extra funds or it was under 2
but its so random and discretionary, depending also on the level, the gross salary, if you are managing people or (not), could go to 1500 for a BE on a certain level to 500 even for a ME, no rule really... up to the manager....
in continental Europe the range I have seen is 500 EUR - 5000 EUR - 500 EUR for a BE, but also for a ME, 5000 for EE...
