Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Give it to me straight

I’ve been here almost a year, and I want to know - will things get better? I feel like I’m being way overworked for what I’m being paid and the time frame for things to be done can sometimes seem absurd. The work environment while tolerable can be toxic depending on the whims of management. I just need to know if it’s worth sticking it out for or if I should find some other employment. As it stands I’m riding the fence here.

Unless you organize and get yourself a union, then no, Even then, we will need numbers to make serious demands. When it comes down to it, the only way to improve your workplace conditions is through collective action.

You can follow the rules, but if you're not one of their favorites, good luck. You can request day(s) off in advance, get it approved, then tl schedules you to work it so their favorite has all the help they need. Go figure.

Nine years experience here. It's been going downhill for the last five years, drastically so for the last three. Keep your job until you find another one, but start looking immediately. I am.

Truthfully, companies are not hiring any one person to do a one-person job. With all the layoffs, existing employees are stuck doing multiple jobs per headcount. It will be very busy everywhere else. Do your best in your current job. You don't have to be perfect at it. Be happy to have your paycheck for now.

The answer to your question is no, things will not get better. I’ve worked for the company for over a decade and the decline in the past 3 years has been drastic. They do not care about team members at all, no matter what BS propaganda they try to feed you. Get out while you can.
