Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Learn from the mistakes of others

My team was so understaffed and I thought that there was no more room for layoffs after they laid off some of the best people I have ever worked with. And then I relaxed instead of looking for a new job because I thought the likelihood of me getting fired was almost nil. What a mistake!
Luckily, it all ended well because I quickly found a new job, but my advice to everyone is to never think that you are safer than others and that layoff will not happen to you.

So true. I find that people who survive layoffs tend to look down on the ones who did not. They say they weren't doing their job or they just weren't needed. They relax and think well.. it's not going to happen to me. I'm needed here. Not true at all. Once you start seeing that ax swinging, best to start looking. I was looking but still got cut. Hopefully, I find a better fit soon.
