Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Sh$t Show

I have been employed here for 17 years.. I can say without hesitation that this is the worst I have ever seen it. Senior management could care less that departments are drowning with work, due to layoffs and not replacing staff. It’s just a matter of time before there will be a huge loss or lawsuit coming. I feel for the people who are here drowning on a daily basis..

@qzc+1alj8pey ... ge–z, you're giving us the 'employment at will' tag line? If you want to be a jerk on this forum, I'm sure you can do better than that

And lots of mistakes equals lay–off target. We need people to perform under pressure, not fold at the knees. Come on!

Ya agree. There are mistakes being made daily since so many teams are understaffed and overworked coupled with the“all man for himself” attitude created by performance review bulls@t, and many just don’t care enough. I remember a time when my reports & colleagues would go above and beyond to help. Those days are long gone. Employee moral is insanely low. This place is an absolute black h–e, sucking the life from your soul.
Sorry I was sidetracked- back to point although, it’s pretty obvious:
disgruntled employees = careless attitude= Lots of mistakes

And I should add that NOBODY thinks BK owes them a job. No one has had that attitude in 30 years.
Nobody likes change but they could certainly make it a lot more bearable. Everyone they laid off SHOULD have been making us money or they shouldn't have been employed to begin with. It's HUGE for a lot of people to be told they have to find another job within a few months. It would be barely notable for the bank to take and extra year to lay people off and be up front about how many people they're laying off and when.

@qzc+1alj8pey, I assume they mean BK will be sued for not doing their job. Something like OFAC violations. Or not meeting regulatory obligations. Or being hacked because of replacing competent IT people with people who can barley code. Or total system outages that effect the FED. Etc, etc...

What do you think anyone could sue the bank for? It’s perfectly within their right to lay people off, for basically any reason. They don’t owe anyone employment. Even if you tried to say that it’s ageism, you could point to other metrics (higher pay for older workers, not digitally native or possessing data skills that are increasingly important in operations, etc.) to explain why older employees might be laid off. There’s nothing to sue over, it’s just the way things are in financial operations and tech. As with any industry, these are support positions and thus will be cut and minimized as much as possible. It’s the same in healthcare, manufacturing, consumer products, etc. support staff is always subject to cuts and low pay.
