Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

You are just a number

You’re a number. That’s it. If you are an all star, they will keep you. If you are not “innovative”, you are on a chopping block. Those are just the simple facts. I was axed 2 years ago, and will say that the grass is greener. The days of working and retiring with one company are long over. Especially in corporate America. It’s just a fact, and you should expect it. I hope they are still offering a severance. Because that helped tremendously! All in all, my ego was hurt. But I made out personally in the layoff. Many months of severance pay, plus unemployment pay, and landed a better job making more money. It can happen to you too!

Easy there, Michael Scott. Sounds like you're more of a group leader or a shift supervisor. Management doesn't supervise people, they make people more efficient and make sure they have to tools to accomplish the goals that they set. That's what's lacking at BNY.

I hope it happens to me soon. I even told my manager that if they are going to eliminate a position, I will volunteer! I’m older, have health issues and close to retirement. Working for BNY Mellon and the last year of Covid is sucking the life right out of me and my coworkers every day!! Good luck to you all!!!
