Do you manage to get enough rest?

When I describe to friends my work day here I can hardly believe how bad it is. However, it is no longer a problem that I spend my working day under so much stress and being overwhelmed with work, but that when I have a day off I simply can't get enough rest. It started to reflect a lot on my private life and that’s why I can’t wait to get out of here.

I just took a week's vacation expressly so I could sleep. Most weekends I lose to sleeping till the afternoon.

Most of my weekends are spent for sleeping and I don't have any energy left to clear up my room. This job just drains the last drop of my energy to pay my bills.

You don't need to work in a different time zone for it, @1yrn+1as9oKSe. All of the town halls from Todd, Bridget, etc are scheduled hours before the start of my workday. We couldn't leave early though because we still had to support our systems until 5:00 EST.

It's worse if your manager and up work in different time zones. They'll set up meetings outside of your normal work hours using WFH as an excuse for the required flexibility. You can get away sometimes if you have kids as an excuse, but if not then coffee will be your best friend as you attend that 7AM meeting.

I managed to start getting enough rest when I finally quit after years of being a part of the company. Being able to not wake up at 2:30 AM for a 4:00 AM shift start is pretty nice and highly recommended.

Yes, while WFH, I have a nice comfy couch for dozing during the day. Tennis, anyone?

I'm aggravated while I'm at work but I try my best to forget all about it when I log off for the day. I used to stress out when the work day was ending and stay later to finish any project i was in the middle of or close to completing, but once our team was told we weren't allowed to claim any overtime unless it was approved in advance, I stopped doing it. It makes my work suffer because to get back up to speed on what I had been working on is an arduous process of re–familiarization with the details, but I don't care anymore if it takes extra time.

No, even when I'm not working I'm fried from the work day, thinking about what I need to do tomorrow, and stressed from trying to juggle work and family duties. But this has been true of several jobs I've had. All these companies do the same thing: talk about how they support their employees and promote work life balance and then turn around and shovel work down our throats until we can't swallow anymore. Then they dump you and find someone else to torture for a few years. If we're lucky we'll all get to retire someday and live a few years of peace and health until we die.

I was the same way. I would get so little sleep, had work brain, plus all the stuff needing attention at home with kids and family. I was miserable. Since being let go from here, I actually sleep and feel like I’ve been able to catch up on years of sleep. I don’t have the same level of anxiety. Life is just better in many ways. Letting them let you go isn’t so bad. A mutual benefit.
