I would very much like to go to another company, but not by getting laid off here so that then I have to accept the first option that is offered to me.
However, there are a lot of people who have been telling me lately that they would like to get laid off.
I don't understand why because from my own previous experience, it's much easier to get a new job when you already have a job.

Because these people are miserable and want to bi--h and complain instead of going else where. I’m not valued blah blah. Go somewhere else then cause coming in here complaining cause you have no ba--s in office, is sad
OP+1ascbyHb like anything in life we are all different and have different goals experiences and beliefs. That said, for some a layoff can lead to better things and/or may not create a financial hardship as it would for others. Or, it can relieve stress, which can effect ones physical and mental health. What works for 1 person may not be good for another. You have to determine what works best for you. It sounds like you getting laid-off would be stressful, unless you found work right away. There's no right or wrong way to feel about being laid-off.
7efs+1ascbyHb nope not NYC, it's about $531 here. NJ beats out NYC. NJ is $731 a week at least in 2020, may be more now. Glad I can file in either state. Of course I'd file in NJ.
WOW, $804 a week in unemployment? Must be NY. My state is about a third of that.
- Many of us wouldn't have to accept the first position that comes along.
- It's not harder to get a job when you're out of work. In fact it gives you much more time to search correctly.
- The option is to stay and do extra work for a company that doesn't value you and gives you no raises.
- You can collect UE benefits for over a year which is currently $804 per week and likely tax free.
- You can get your full salary and benefits for up to a year.
- It can fit nicely into your retirement plan.
Depending on how long you’ve been there, it could be a real advantage for you to get laid off. Being laid off isn’t so bad if you have become miserable and you’ve been there a while.
