Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Where is this company going?

Do they have any vision at all? I am afraid that we are going in the completely wrong direction and that those at the top will only become aware of it when it is very late. Until then, I hope that all talented people who have a lot of potential will be in some other companies, because I am not at all optimistic that anything in this company can be fixed.

Truly the only thing special about WFM is the quality of some of the products. It’s as conventional as it gets across the board. Corporate team will continue to reduce. More atomization will happen, self check out, dark stores. It’s all coming. Get with the program, it’s not WFM of yesterday. There’s no experience there anymore. Prices are too high, store experience isn’t great. I have seen external postings for Team Leaders. Zero bench strength, awful retention. Pay might be good, but is there anything else keeping you there?

WFM long ago lost its soul. It's another cog in the Amazon flywheel now. They won't rest until it's cored out, staff replaced with engineers to make all the decisions, and the stores resemble fulfillment centers.

I think he bought Whole Food's as a tax write off and intends to faze it out over time. If I am right he has no need to care about what's going on with workers.

I've got somewhere around thirty clipboards in my department, half of which I have to sign nighty. I can expect "corrective action" (What is it with this dufus company and their cop verbage?) if I don't fill out every one of these stupid things every night. This company is a micromanagement he-l, and micromanagers are, by nature, myopic. So no, this company has absolutely no vision. They're too concerned with their clipboards, dress codes, and corrective action to see that everyone is leaving and that everyone hates management (not to be confused with leadership, of which this company has not a bit.)

The vision is make money not about employing happy people. WfM likes to pretend it's saving the planet. Why would they care about the planet but not even care about the well being of its TM during a pandemic?
