Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

RAISE!

after waiting 6 months to finally get my raise which I was told about six months ago, I check my paycheck and it’s $29.
Won’t even offset the amount of gas I will be spending commuting unnecessarily back to the office beginning in Sept. thanks for almost nothing…...

@aycj, please tell us that you don't work in Finance or worse yet PAYROLL with your suggestion that the OP made $100k and got the "full amount"

Here's some simple math for you.

$60,000 (salary) x .01 (1% raise) / 24 (paychecks in a year) = $25 (increase per pay)

For a $100k salary employee to end up with a $29 per pay increase, the raise would be .7%. Since you are mathematically challenged, that is LESS than 1%. If you think that is the full amount or that is acceptable, then you have bigger issues than your absence of math skills.

@aycj, $100k was ok in 2005. Now days you can get $100k at a cushy government job with a pension and benes.

So, if you are getting about a $29 raise, generally speaking, you are probably in the Nashville, Pgh area or similar demographic, and probably pulled a cool $100K. That number also would mean you got the full amount while some of your peers got nothing.

Could also mean you are on the low end if in NJ or NYC.

Yes, raises this year sucked, but you are making $100K plus and complaining? For that amount of coin, you probably have other opportunities out there, or you are getting close to the end. if so, fixed income is really going to bite.

I hope raises rebound, but people hoping double-digit raises we got back in the mid 80s are kidding themselves. Don't expect more than 2 percent, or whatever inflation is at the time.

Ah. Gotta love the corporate lemmings. That don’t think $1 billion in profits is enough - so our measly 1% delayed raise is sufficient so the fat cats at the top can collect even more.

So you'll be making $29 more than you were making before pandemic when you were commuting to the office?

Quit whining. This was supposed to be temporary.

Not sure what world you live in, @2wsv, but it's MUCH better down the road. Our company made a BILLION dollars last QUARTER and you expected a wage freeze?
If NY didn't discriminate against middle aged people I could go be a state trooper for $120,000 per year with a multi-million dollar retirement plan. Or, I could sell cars and make a little more without the bene's. Heck, I could make $60k bartending part time.

Some people didn't get anything, and some even got layed off although one can say they are they lucky ones.

Compared to losing my job, I'll take that 29 bucks (per month) any day.. it's better than a wage freeze, which I was expecting, and those above me got nothing increase-wise.

If people aren't happy, leave. it's not all that much better down the road.

You can also go flip burgers for 15 dollars an hour.. they're hiring. :)

Whenever I spoke about raise or a promotion to my managers they always had a evil cunning smile on their face making me absolutely feel guilty of a crime asking them about a raise in my salary ,whereas I have seen they be getting more than 10% raise in their salaries and even promoted.I would never understand this management gamble ever in my lifetime.

Yep. Heard the same nonsense. Meanwhile, some collect 10’s of millions in bonus.
Just corporate shills regurgitating the company line

Get a hobby as a second job to make more pocket money and invest in the market. I don't rely on the BNY raise to keep up with the inflation. Managements are Greed into their blood.

I was told to be grateful for my $25 raise because most people didn't get anything, and others don't have jobs.
