Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

To the displaced, when not looking for a job,

How are you spending your days? How are your spirits?
I have my good days and bad days and I pray often all while searching.

I hated myself while working at BNYM. The toxic environment really brings out the worst in people. It is not until I left BNYM and got over my resentment at my old team that I realized how bad things were over there. How much the few people that really suck does affect the workplace.

I am glad I was laid off BNYM because without that push I don't think I'd ever be out. It's hard to leave something that's easy and comfortable but at the end of the day, it's a learning experience.

As for how I spend my days, I've gotten a golden opportunity to recharge without having to stress about my finances (thank you Biden). Although I am applying and interviewing for new roles, I've also taken some time to work on myself, get closer to my friends and family and volunteer at my church.

There's ups and there's downs of course; but I've come to learn that it's not exclusively something I'm struggling with, regardless of however I see my peers doing in life; rather it's something hundreads of thousands of people around the world are going through. Not that knowing competent and hardworking people are out of a job makes things any better, but at least I know I'm not going through it alone.

Also, fk BNYM and the cts who manage it.

If you have savings to hold you over it's not that bad. My days are good and I let out a huge sigh of relief once I got the package. I will start the new job search after labor day, but to answer your question getting away from that he-l ho-e was the best thing that ever happened to me recently. I was there many, many years and once the bank took over it was the end of a good company. Lots to say but I'd rather not bore you. Good luck on your job search and don't let it get you down. Just might be the best thing that has happened to you.

Like you, I look around and also, try to stay optimistic.
I do try to enjoy the outdoors since it's summer and we all need some recreational time. Best of luck, everyone.

Mid-level managers have traditionally been the link between leadership and staff. With virtual offices allowing leadership to communicate directly with all employees, the role of these managers may be at risk
The role of the middle manager, a crucial link between the junior managers and senior leaders, has come into the spotlight even as organisations deliberate on the shape of the new workplace post pandemic.
The middle layer, which fuels an organisation’s leadership pipeline, is caught between two extremes — from being excessively used to risking redundancy. With leaders directly connecting with the lower levels, could there be a reduced dependency on the middle layer?

Saved enough while working that I don't have to work anymore. Spending the summer boating, riding my new ebike and doing a few projects around the house. I didn't realize how stressed I was at work. I was in IT and our local team was competent and worked hard so we were on top of the important things. But it was all pretty complicated and we spent a lot of time and effort to keep things running and implement enhancements with minimal risk. The only thing I miss is that there was SOOO much potential to make things 100x better.
