Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

How big will the layoffs be?

Layoffs rumored to be in August or September, is there any insight on how big they will be and who the target groups are? Some say there shouldn’t be big cuts at all given the number of people leaving. I received an offer, so I'm thinking whether to accept it or wait a little longer.

Does the MO still work in the following way: Any employee who has worked at the Bank for double digit years is suddenly an "underperformer" and will get layed off in the next cycle or two. Layoffs are quietly done and a couple younger people are sprinkled in to make it not look like Discrimination against older employees. A couple of notes: I had never received an underperforming review, They should be sued for discrimination but no way in he-l i would want to go back to work for that cr---y place. Also, It is very illegal to forbide your employees to discuss salaries amongst themselves.

Some parts of operations have a ~15% saving target and you know that wont come from chopping the management ranks. Lake Mary and Pittsburgh will be hit hard

No @3cov+1bXrepig, you are wrong about no one knowing.

I know. I'm just not going to post the exact number and put myself at risk.

The number is "in the hundreds", @2bio? In other words, no one knows...

Let me clear up some things for those that have replied.

Why would the OP consider waiting to see if he/she gets laid off? Well, if they've been with the company a long time it would result in a nice severance (or whatever they call it) package. For someone like myself, a year of paychecks to sit at home would be a nice way to bridge the gap before retirement.

As for the numbers and "no one" knows, that of course is false. There is a precise number known to several that quite often gets leaked. That number fluctuates daily as people get added (and on some occasions removed) from the list.

That number is in the hundreds at the moment.

If you have an offer and want the job, take it! Get out of this dump!

Were you offered a job AT BNY or are you currently at BNY and were offered something at another company.
But to answer your question, nobody has any idea how many will be affected. Their downsizing is done by snipers.

To the second poster, we will always have 20% below. That’s how the model works.

It's all top secret. Don't you know how this company works by now? Pretty stupid, but that's the way the diverse HR people operate.

Nope just an employee that has to do the hanger ons work because they don't feel like it which is why they continuously get rated BE but haven't been fired since the place is so short staffed.....

There are thousands praying to be laid off. If It is August or September the victims have already been submitted. Is your "offer" going to wait forever for your reply? No - say good-bye already.
