Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What would you consider fair severance during layoffs?

Would it be a month per year, two weeks per year, something else?

I was at BNYMellon for 35 years & received 52 weeks when I was let go in January 2021. That is the most you can received.

It IS 2 weeks for every year, but it is also capped at 52 weeks due to a change several years ago.. you don't get 60 for 30 years.

There are rumors that new people don't get that, but I don't believe that to be true so I think they ARE eligible, but 2 weeks per for a new person during a pandemic still isn't enough.

@3cjz+, that's for sub pay, not severance. And if someone has 30 year in, they'd be offered a retirement package instead of sup pay.

Right now its 2 weeks foe every year you are there. They should not limit it to 52 weeks. If you are there 30 years you get 60 weeks. The more years you have in and the more weeks you get will help in finding a job cause it’s very hard as you get older. Finding that out now.

Fair value is a subjective thing. It really would depends on how much the employee puts into this work relationship in the first place. In order to be shielded from the feeling of being treated unfairly, the staff must first understand that loyalty can be difunctional, simply because a) management can and will change, b) people do change and c) there are all types of people out there and not everyone is like minded as us.

For me the hard feelings didn’t come from the actual layoff. I wanted that layoff because I was SO miserable there. The hard feelings came from the way not only I was treated by management, but also the way management was treating those around me. It was disgusting and demoralizing. Looking at my co workers was like looking at victims of emotional abuse. For many if not all, they knew what was happening either to them or their work mates, was wrong, so they try harder or for some darkness set in and they would pile the garbage they were stuck in on others who were also stuck in garbage, just trying to save themselves. For many including myself and for multiple reasons whether it is financial, self esteem brought down, dealing with too much outside of work and just trying to keep the car on the road or whatever or just not wanting to give in and give up you stay...until it’s your time to go. If you are ready to be laid off it’s a win-win for you and the company. But I will NEVER forget how I felt witnessing co-workers and myself treated so poorly here. That is where the hard feelings are. It’s too bad.

I'm not saying layoffs are coming, I'm just curious what people consider a good enough package to walk away without hard feelings.
