Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Don't take the bait

Do your 40 hours and don't do OT even though they are offering double time. If nobody gets on board it will put pressure on them to make real changes. They still don't appreciate you they are just nervous going into the holidays.

Cashiers are only really useful to the super old people that can't handle change. With time those jobs are bound to go away but I think it's a way off. Most jobs other than physically handling product could be automated if they got the right data.

They just opened 2 cashierless stores as well so say goodbye to the c.s team in the next few years. Maybe they will just be able to transfer to other teams that need help but likely massive layoffs over the next several years of restructuring.

Lols, if you think Wf isn't profitable. Store sales are down but online grocery sales are growing at an enormous rate. Worst case scenario all Whole Foods stores become Amazon warehouses for delivery with minimal in-store customers. Sounds nice to me. They have already started operating some "dark stores" that only fill online orders. I'm kind of jealous of the TM's that get to work customer free.

Whole Foods Profits 2020

2020 Number of Stores. 500+

Working OT is not worth it. IT seems when you miss a shift you lose like $100 from your check. Work 65 hours a week get an extra $20. The taxes make it not worth it. Don't work the OT. Make your STL's and ASTL's work until they quit and the store ceases to function. Then maybe Whole Foods will see that their practices are not sustainable.

The holidays are going to ki-l the astl’s and stl’s. They are already not doing any work wait until they have to break 17 pallets and run the store then help counter teams while they barely keep up.

We are going to need a he-l of a lot of astl’s to cover the teams .

Let the astl’s do the work and cover all the callouts and understaffed teams.
I can’t wait to see them break load and do o.o.s walks wait they can’t or will not do it so you are screwed.
Ast’ls will cover all the missing shifts.
Don’t promote people that tl’s have to run all the reports for them or have us explain what the reports mean.I always have to do the admin of my stl and astl’s since they don’t know or can’t do the job.

Just think for the next four months if you just work a few hours, over your 40 you will make as much as ur fellow ATL'S.

Take it easy about the lifer comments you seem like a really intelligent individual. Not everyone will be super successful in life but at the end of the day somebody needs to do the grunt work.I bet you have a bright future doing whatever it is you are doing because you are so important.

wow.... what a WF lifer. GO LOOK IT UP you lemming. WF DOESNT NOT MAKE A PROFIT. thats half the reason they let amazon buy them out. Maybe you missed the letter written by the CEO explaining all of that ... it should have been next to the time clock when the sale happened. But you probably dont know how to read in the first place. Goodluck lifer

Yes the NA is a mess from the top down I have worked with many awful STLs that are known through out the region as being awful leaders and as just people in general. Funny thing Is that has never improved and it's just tolerated because the company lacks any real ethics despite its claims of how ethical they are.

If this isn’t a call to unionize I don’t know what is. Poor working conditions, pay scales not aligning. Store conditions are mediocre are best these days, safety in store can’t be good. The North Atlantic leadership team is an absolute joke no real leaders just puppets in Amazon’s filthy games.

Yeah no money is being made just operating at a constant loss because that would make so much sense.

whoever is arguing the fact that WHOLEFOODS IS NOT PROFITABLE needs to stay at WF. If you cant handle a FACT THAT YOU CAN LOOK UP then you deserve to be a lifer in that dump

From personal experience, I would say that the only real answer- based on these comments and the previous posts is:

  • Stop feeling hopeless.
  • Update your resume.
  • Get out there and start applying for jobs.

Believe me, there are a number of places to work that are at least marginally better than this dumpster fire.

The people in stores do have leverage they generate all of the money if you dont realize that you are a fool. Corporate produces zero revenue its the bottom that produces profit.

to the person saying no one is applying and regional is shocked because of that...

I dont think you understand REGIONAL is part of the WF umbrella thats going to get purged. No one is really applying to any of these dead end jobs right now, thats true enough. But its also obvious to anyone thats worked at or is familiar with an Amazon warehouse (they right super tight shifts) that WF's style of wishy-washy cr-p business running is about to get absolutely turned on its head. Mark my word this is just speeding up the process and you can kiss your regionals goodbye because most of them will be working store level or quitting soon enough (or consolidation as Amazon might call it)

Like i said, come back to this in a year and a half

RE: Person talking about positions getting replaced with cheaper labor.

I don't know where you are from, but in this region you literally couldn't pay people to want to work here. When the staffing issues first got bad, regionals answer was to offer $18 starting wage for most positions, and still no one applied. They didn't understand how that was possible. The thing is, people don't want to work for this company anymore period. I remember when a job posting would go up for a leadership position and there were pages of candidates. Now, you are lucky if you get one. I have never seen leadership and employees jumping ship as much as I have lately. It is pretty dismal. So, the notion of some secret gutting plan holds zero water. They are desperate to hold on to whoever they can. Unfortunately, any real retention plan that would involve significant change and/or real wage increase is not in the cards. For being as cutting edge as this company touts, it's always too little too late.

i'll do the OT if they pay me in amazon stock options that i can cash at my own leisure...not in amazons time frame.....

i think some of you guys think you have WAY MORE leverage than you actually do. This is all by design .... if WF tanks in the holidays because of some 'walkout' or 'lack of effort' because of some coordinated campaign , then that actually helps Amazon speed up their gutting process. What your STL wants and what Amazon wants are two different things. WF is on its way to becoming Amazon Fress + or something else soon. Mark this post and come back to it.. There will be no more 3 supervisors per department (TL, ATL) or anymore overpaid employees (cutting cheese for $25? get ready to get replaced by a $15worker when you get burned out, the sooner the better). I give it 18 more months.

This is the correct response. It is all a smokescreen to the real systemic issues of this soulless company. Not to mention it is also a total slap in the face. Oh, you are burnt out? Here, work even more- and we will pay you double time (don't forget how much that gets taxed by the way). Your family, friends, sanity? They dont matter. Whole Foods is your captain now.
