Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Too much hate

I'll grant you, this is not the best place to work but does it really deserve all the hate it gets here? People seem to get too involved with their places of work and expect too much. You do the work, you get paid for it, that's it. I don't expect BNY Mellon to respect me - what does that even mean? For as long as I get paid in time, I'm good.

@dszu,
I should add that you're right about the wokeness. It makes things worse, not better.

@dszu,
I make the world safer by actively preventing OFAC entities from moving money.
I support products that help importers and exporters minimize risk so people in Chinese factories can eat and people in more developed countries can have nice stuff.
I support products that help importers and exporters finance the goods they're trading.

How exactly in your opinion are you “making the world a better place” by working here?

I don’t see anything that we do as making the world a better or a worse place. The woke push actually is doing serious damage to the world, in particular the donations to hate groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, but that is not on the typical employee. Even the leaders who pay up for it view it as anything more than a cost of doing business.

@OP+1cWpMyNg, easy for you to say because you have a job. If you get sh-t canned, you'll one of those who sees this firm for what it really is. You will also understand why all the hate thrown it's way!

Some of the post is accurate. I work in BNY Ireland. Senior management asked why I care so much about BNY when they did not. A COO advised me not to care as nobody else does. Awful place to work.

Don't be a martyr and above all don't be loyal because all it gets you is a big gigantic kick in the a$$. Loyalty means absolutely nothing to these clowns. I equate employment in this place as to the expiration date on a milk carton. Once the expiration date is up the milk carton gets thrown in the trash. They could care less about you as I have come to learn the hard way.

I don't know why OP is on here if he loves the place but i just enjoy reading about everyone bi-----g and moaning, its pretty damn funny. Plus sometimes there is some heads up info on here. All these places are the same. Read any of the major banks and the employees complain about all the same stuff

I somewhat agree with multiple posts on this subject. Agreed they don't need to care about me personally and i don't need to care about them either, just mutual respect should be had. I certainly don't need a proverbial pat on the rear end either. But like some other posts said, i shouldn't have to worry about being laid off constantly. Like someone else said about the peace corp, we aren't curing cancer here so what real difference does BNYM make to the majority of society. All i ask is to supply me with the proper tools so i can work hard at what i do and provide me with stability. Unfortunately those 2 things normally don't happen here from what i have read from most people.

THIS IS A GREAT PKACE TO WOKE …. I mean work ,!if you ignore.

1% raises
Less bonus each year
Looking over your shoulder to see if you’re next to lose your job
Having some sort of benefit taken away what seems like every year
overall making less per year than you did in prior years, particularly when you’re factoring in inflation…

Please don't assume you are the only one who thinks he does intelligent work and automation. Watch out for your own replacement. Whatever you do can be done for less money than you do it for and there are 100s of willing people to replace you.

When a company shows respect for their employees that helps boost employee morale. I don't think people mind working hard but they do mind working hard for free. Who doesn't want to feel like their hard work is being recognised or appreciated??! Without their employees a company would fail which many forget.

If you guys just want to show up and collect a paycheck this company is for you. You're exactly like the employees we're being replaced with. Just sit there and wait for someone to tell you what to do and mess it up when something deviates from the norm. You'll be perfectly content until I replace you with some AI or a simple bot.

If I wanted to save a world I would have joined the peace corps, and not a greedy corporation. I agree with the OP. You do the work, you get paid for the work you do.
No hate. BNYM is free to get rid of me anytime they wish, I am free to go at any time as well.

OP - I’m sure you’ll change your perspective once you get laid off.

This company has no loyalty or respect for its employees. So why should we have any for them?

Employees like you are the issue. If MORE people would "get too involved with their places of work" the place would actually be run better.
And life isn't all about making money. We want to be useful and make the world a better place.

You want to be a cheap slave for BNY, that is your wish. I always look for better opportunities. I do it my way.
