Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Why do you keep working hard?

This is an honest question. It has been proven over and over again that working hard will bring you nothing good. You won't be promoted and it'll hardly be considered when it comes to raises. So what drives you to continue giving it your all? I've been doing my minimum for the past year at least and I've been much happier since I started.

I continue to work hard. It's about personal integrity.

I have worked diligently and genuinely have always tried to put forth an honest effort during my 12+ years at BoA but that sentiment came to a grinding halt earlier this year. Over the past 20 months I have been persistent in performing my job from home because quite frankly I had a lot of hope that if we all pulled through then maybe this work arrangement would be a long-term possibility. Well, I was very wrong... Most of us put forth good efforts only to have Sr Leadership treat us unprofessionally and like children... Return to the office mandates... Why? "Because we say so..." We held up our end of the bargain only to have BoA slam the doors in our faces.

RTO has and always will be about driving up attrition so they can cut costs by not paying out severances and back filling open roles with Indians.
This Bank will survive the next year but the culture won't...

I worked my bu-t off, was one of the highest performers on my team and was told doing a good job was just part of the job, when I was told why my bonus was average. So really, working hard gets you nothing. This year I’m doing the bare minimum and they’ve noticed so interested to see what my end of year bonus will be.

I'm not real motivated to go above and beyond anymore knowing that my team will continue to be transitioned to India over the next year or two... RTO is just salt in the wound. I don't feel valued as an employee here anymore and it's disappointing since I've put in over 12 years of dedicated service to this company.

Because I just don't know how to not work hard. Even though I know my days are numbered at the bank and I'll be leaving 30 days after I get my RTO notice even when I try to slack off I can't. I guess it's the pride of being a consistent top performer.

Honestly I stopped working hard for the bank years ago. Working hard only created more work for me, picking up the slack for others. Now I do the minimum, yet still get paid the same as high performers.

For me, the issue is the volume of work. I'm happy to work hard and do the best I can do, but the volume of work aligned to one person is beyond the ability to accomplish in even a very long work week. This has become the norm for me and my coworkers. We are set up for failure. ...and I think you're right OP - this does not buy anything by way of promotion or more money, or even a pat on the back, at least from my experience. There are good bosses out there, but mine is not one of them.

If I'm not working, I'm bored. My work ethics were instilled in me at a very young age. My environment and parents taught unknowingly by the actions. I have a family to provide for. My father once said to me "When you get married and have kids, it's your responsibility to put food in their stomach, clothes on their back, and a roof over their heads. If you don't, you're not a man". As stressful as work may be at times, I still enjoy my job.

Because we work hard for God not the bank. God expects us to.

  1. I legit don't want to get promoted.
  2. I like my current job and think I want to do it until I retire.
  3. My boss is intelligent and an actual human being.

Thats why I work hard.

Don't get the impression that everyone hates working here from this forum. It has its ups, its downs, its challenges, its d-mb times... but lots of people actually like it here.

The only roadblock for me is this vax nonsense. I won't be touching that damn jab.
