Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

WFH

According to my local new station WJXT (here I go putting another target on my back for management) Amazon said Monday "it will allow many tech and corporate workers to continue working remotely indefinitely, as long as they can commute to the office when necessary." This is from the The Seattle Times.

Hey Brian M, stop forcing us back into the office when a number of large companies are no longer forcing RTO. Keep your employees happy and productive and with the company. My resignation letter is already on my home computer and ready to be sent to you directly on the day I'm forced back into the office.

I've seen a laundry list of positives of WFH. The only "positive" of WFH is "spontaneous water cooler conversations." Yet, we have the same trolls coming here to berate those who favor WFH and offer no reason for RTO other than "we're an in-office company" and yet they're the ones calling those with backup support immature. You can't make this stuff up.

@2veq+1dg3iwrT We're only scratching the surface so far with flight risk and attrition... If the Bank moves forward with forcing people back into the office 5 days/week then there will be a massive amount of resignations by the end of Q1'22 and the only way they can backfill will be utilizing more cheap Indian labor... keep drinking the company Kool aid and you will find yourself speaking Hindi in meetings this time next year.

The people who don’t want to come into work need to reassess their motives. You were hired for a position that required you to come into the office. Time to grow up. If you want to WFH, please go find a job that has that as an option. BoA has made it clear they are not a WFH company.

Ha ha… you have to actually come into work. That’s how it works. It’s called a job. You show up, do your work, get a paycheck.

Like BM is really gonna care if you send your resignation letter directly to him. He's more likely to rejoice since he doesn't have to pay severance and achieve his cost-cutting goal.

The person trolling is the person who hates coming into work and actually working.

If you just follow and not lead. Including return 5x a week...it shows you have no place in leadership roles. You are just a cog and happy to be one.

even if the bank doesnt like it, we must ensure this is heard and putting our voices out there (not just here). This is how necessary change is done!

Blockbuster thought video streaming was impossible. Where are they now?

I like coming into the office. I enjoy the segregation between work and home. I am an introvert but enjoy chatting with coworkers when I need to. However, I would like flexibility to work a day or two from home per week if I need to and not feel like I'm "against" RTO.

It's called change from within. We don't have a union and we should, but even without a union, people can and should speak up for what they want in exchange for a day's work. Even though work is "at will" in most places, employees still have a voice. Yes you can choose to leave and if you find a better offer, by all means you should, but that alone doesn't fix the problem. LET'S BE CLEAR... the "firm" absolutely no longer behaves like a "traditional" bank.
So let's first decide who we want us to be.
Are we an old school traditional bank? if so...ok....fine, all the men should put on a suite and tie and all the women should put on a dress and pantyhose and by all means let go in to to the office. I mean, that is the true old school way. Many of us remember that.
Are we a "modern tech firm" as stated on Flagscape? If so...ok...fine, then let's keep in step with other modern tech firms and acknowledge that time and technology have moved forward and we can work as well from home as we do from the office.

Surveys show about 80% of workers prefer a remote or hybrid work arrangement and a third would be willing to take a pay cut for it.

My office floor is less than 10% occupied after the "Big RTO day" on Sept 9th and many of the ones who did return on Sept 9th hated it and went back to working remotely.

Anyone who wants to commute into an office 5 days/week is in the minority...

Bunch of trolls on this site. I'm sorry your personal and home life is so miserable that you have to find satisfaction in being in an office every day and troll others who want flexibility.

The bottom line is, the 5 day work week is back and here to stay. If you are someone who hates coming into the office, then that is on you. Might be time to look for something that meets your own work criteria. Seems many companies are offering WFH positions, so it shouldn’t be so hard to find something that makes you happy. I know of many people who actually enjoy coming into the office and to have real face time with fellow team members, it seems there will always be a small number of people who just don’t want to be part of the team, they are the ones who are difficult to work with anyway, so them wanting to work from home like lone wolves, is not surprising.

In the meantime, the whiners and complainers will be labeled toxic employees. Proceed accordingly, no one likes to work with toxic people.

What's with all of the trolls in here? Come on man. Some of you who are so unhappy with the posts in here should go start your own posts instead of criticizing others.
I don't think many people are going to just get up and quit without another job lined up, unless they can retire now.

It's about having a voice in the process.. I tend to believe that employee dissatisfaction with the original RTO plan is going to bring about change. BofA isn't going to tank morale and put themselves in an even worse position to recruit then they are currently by sticking to a 5 days/week in office stance when other companies are evolving.

It's about speaking up and not being a "yes" man to everything. Just because it's at-will employment, but that doesn't mean we have to accept things staying the same when the labor market is evolving. Leaders in the Bank actually appreciate employee feedback, whether they act on it or not...

I know of someone who was told to get back to the office 5 days a week. They quit and now are regretting their decision. No unemployment, having difficulty finding same pay at another similar job and having to explain why they quit. Basically they just screwed themselves financially and for what? Being told they have to come into the office so they can don what they were hired to do?

I honestly don’t know why some of you have such an issue going to work. It’s called work for a reason. And, yeah, to most people , work kinda sucks, but you suck it up and do it.

I think what’s so mind boggling is the fact that some are so unhappy working for what they call an ‘old school bank’, yet they stay. It’s like they love being the victim. I got news for ya, BoA owes you nothing. You don’t like it? Leave. Why do you think they owe you a WFH job? Seriously, get a grip. If you want to stay home all day, look for a remote wfh position. You won’t though because it’s your nature to whine and complain. You’re pathetic and useless.

Good luck, you’re gonna need it with that attitude. No one ever said work is fair, fun or easy. It’s called being an adult and learning to deal with the circumstances. Again, if you don’t like it, leave. FFS, it’s like working with children. Grow up.

To the first 2 commenters - Oh I get it, only employees are required to accept change on a constant by this company, but the company is not required to change....

Many of these comments are from submissive yes man attitude. They love their peanut bonuses and are unhappy with wife and kids at home. Nothing wrong with OPs post. If you can't embrace change then stop being complacent when there is change. The old ways are no more. It's supply and demand at the end. Not demanding your people back in the middle of a pandemic and culture shift.

Since there are so many companies who offer WFH now, why don’t you apply for a new job? Why stay at a company when you are clearly miserable going into the office? You do understand BM and bank management don’t care what you want, right?

I’d say it’s time for you to move on as you are not happy and this will only cause you stress and subsequent health issues from that stress. Stop being complacent, your work life is only as good as you choose it to be.

Lots of people are going into the office and are doing fine. Infact, many are happy to be going into work. Happiness is a choice no matter what your situation. Be grateful you have a job. Practice having an attitude of gratitude.
