Tuition Reimbursement Repayment

Has anyone who ever left the company had to repay the tuition back? I left the company in February 2021 due to terrible management and did receive a letter asking for money back. Didn’t repay it and so far nothing else has been sent to me.

In 25 years of hr I’ve never heard of a major company going after tuition reimbursement.

I’ve heard of people leaving the company a day after they received reimbursement, with nothing every happening. This isn’t actually a question you can openly ask HR so a forum where people only complain about the company is the perfect space for this.

Legally you owe BNY that $ back. Unclear if anyone still is left in HR so it will probably fall through the cracks.

I'd be surprised if BNY would report this to a credit bureau since they have little to gain and it could open them up to legal troubles. Well, I wouldn't be totally surprised but you get my point.
Read the terms and if you owe them, pay them. Unless you're a thief...

Or the bank may report the unpaid amount as income to the Feds, in addition to collection/bureaus. Read the fine print.

BNY might report this to a credit bureau which will decrease your credit score. I remember I saw this line on the form when I applied for the Tuition Reimbursement.

I always recommend directing these questions to a random Internet layoff board rather than reviewing your actual contract paperwork to determine your obligations. You’ss certainly obtain several suggestion which will really appeal to you.

probably a chance they will file for a collector so they dont have to deal with it. did you read the terms in full when you applied for the tuition reimbursement? see what's in the terms
