Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Just had a my first round of interviews at another bank and it’s a remote job, FT WFH.

WFH is the way of the future.

Reading this was like watching Office Space. It rings so true! The office is a waste of time for sure. but if it means keeping my job, I'll go 2-3 days a week. If there's a forced 5 days a week mandate coming out, I'll find another company. They need to tread carefully or we'll all leave.

Nothing worse than being stuck in traffic on a cold, bitter Monday morning on the way to work - awful!

OP exactly and perfectly said. Has nothing to do with whining, it’s the truth and has gotten worse over the years. The bank is afraid of offending anybody so now it’s a free for all on what you wear, how you act, what you do or don’t do in the office.

To the OP... did you EVER like working in an office? What did you do before reliable internet and the magic of VPNs? Short of the coffee maker, pop machine, and trashcans, is there any part of the office that you failed to quantify how much you hate? If it'll help save you some time, I'll cut down your next post.

• You hate the coffee maker because it makes lousy coffee, the coffee is too hot/cold and not your regular fru-fru brand
• You send regular emails to HR complaining about the lack of trash can diversity.
• The pop machine doesn't include Coke -and- Pepsi products.

Based on your list and mine, may I suggest moving your cube to the loading dock? Whoops, how silly of me, trucks produce too much earth destroying pollution. I guess your next choice is a long extension cord and a desk outside. Great benefits like, fresh air, most noise produced by mother nature, your exposure to Covid is reduced, and you can be the first to arrive and leave!

I'd offer a few interns to cater to all of your wishes, but I think HR calls that servitude.

What it boils down to is outsourcing to cheap labor countries. No one in the US or Europe is willing to work for Indian “slave wages” because we do not live in a society with a third world cost of living.

Serious question. If you’ve “hated the office for years” why do you stay? Why not find a job you like? Maybe you would be happier in another type of job that doesn’t make you come into an office? Just serious food for thought questions for you because I could not imagine what life must be like when you get up each day and hate what you do for a living. I actually enjoy coming into the office. Every once in a while WFH is a nice break if the weather is bad for commuting (like a foot of snow) or you feel sick, but I for one like where I live and where I commute to each day for work. My advice to people like you is find a job you really enjoy with people you respect and you won’t hate your job or your office life so much. Life is too short to be so miserable and for years? You really need a change.

They don't want us to be happy... they are chomping at the bit to outsource our roles to India or bring cheap contractors here at a fraction of the price they pay us. This is what's driving RTO policy and it's in essence just a continuation of the abrupt decision to end the MyWork program years ago... RTO = RIF

Agreed! I hate this effing place. For almost 2 years I've been working at home keeping my stats high. Go back 1-12-21 (maybe) happy employee is a productive employee, unhappy employee will meet the bare minimum. I AM NOT A VERY HAPPY EMPLOYEE RIGHT NOW!
