Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

I'm not trying to get promoted anymore

I gave up. It's not worth trying anymore. I just became more more disappointed and exhausted, pretty much on the verge of burnout. Obviously I am not one of the favorites who get promoted without much effort. After how long did you give up trying to get promoted?

When I first started my mentor told me point blank, if you wanna get promoted, start networking. And that was literally day 1. They didn't say work hard and it'll be rewarded. They didn't say do a good job and you'll get nice raises and bonuses. It was learn to network. And having been at the bank for years now, I see this mantra being true every day. People who are liked get promoted without having to even do anything while others that try hard but aren't in the "in" crowd get nothing. So I too gave trying. And from what I've heard many people say is the promotion to B4 doesn't really come with a big step up in compensation but does come with way more responsibility, so why even bother?

I stopped 5 years ago, realized that favoritism gets you promoted faster than effort.

Agreed. I gave up this year after years of false promises and questionable promotions going to friends of the hiring executive. There is no point ki----g yourself here as in the end the only thing that matters is who you are friends with, how you fit into the "agenda" and , it seems, how poorly you can treat your staff in order to make yourself look good, take all the team victories as your own and scapegoat others when needed.

What ever happened to inspirational leaders or people who actually cared about their teams?

Promoted means you get to keep your job or position and not eliminated to be offshored.

I gave up four years ago and just did my job, no more. I started taking lunch, and began declining meetings that conflicted with my role. Doesn’t matter because people over book appointments…they don’t even care if you already have multiple meetings scheduled in that slot. I went home at 5:10 pm and never logged in at night or on the weekend. That year I got the best review of my career. I’m almost positive that I could have posted loren ipsum for 2 pages and no one would have noticed.

Senior leaders, when your process is so corrupt and this happens, it isn’t a call to over perform: We just stop giving a cr-p and do the bare minimum.

It amazes me how few of our management have even basic social skills. More than half of them don’t even know how to say hello when in an elevator or glance deliberately away when people walk past. I have been in a restaurant and said hello to one of them once, and they pretended not to notice. It is just a freak show that normal adjusted people should not want to be part of. You gotta wonder what metrics they use. Sn-------g id--t 1 point. Weird lies 2 points. Unfailing faith in being superior 1 point. Weird or socially awkward 4 points. Dribbly mess 3 points. Empty personal life 4 points. Incompetence 2 points. No friends other than baml peers 2 points. Talk about feats of imaginary awesomeness and fantasies about self that seem stupid 3 points. Fall to pieces when spoken to 6 points. The list goes on and gets darker. First to 10 points seems to get it

Quit trying years ago. You get moved back down due to “reorganization “ every few years. So really no point. The favorites move up but they look like id--ts. They don’t know anything.
I do my job and that’s it. No point in doing extra.

I got my SVP in 2013, mediocre raises, no promotions, left in 2020. 30% pay increase at a bank that is no where near as toxic, 10% increase in the last year. It was so worth it to leave

When you put yourself out there It just opens you up to be the play things of the narcissists & or those lost folks that have swapped a healthy mind for their position. I am quite surprised how off they act.

It is obvious people should find better employment if they can. There is no pride or competency in our leadership anymore. They are life scared random losers that got lucky for the time being.

As of 2018, I have given up trying to be satisfied in my job. Now, I do my job and do it well, collect my check and am thankful my family has health insurance. Thats it. Now, I am just waiting for a severance package or retirement whatever comes first.

I got my 1st promotion 1 years, then it took 2 years, then 4 years and thwn 6 years.probably will die or retire b4 next one
