Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Why would anybody want to return?

I see some people are applying after being shown the door and I have to ask, why? If I was able to get away with severance, I'd run and never look back. Why somebody would willingly return into this toxic cesspool - especially with so many jobs available right now - is beyond me. So please, enlighten me.

Upvoted you for being honest about liking your job and not taking the jab. The most important thing in my career was an interesting and challenging job that kept me motivated and pushed me to learn new things. Very few bosses understand that and they tend to use the stick and carrot approach because they don't know any better. Mediocre management was the best motivator to keep moving, I get bored easily...

I actually like working here. Like, a lot. My work is interesting and I'm good at it. My boss is good. So if they want me to go to an office, I will go to the office. No complaints from me.

I wont take this jab though.

There are tons of open positions but as those hiring will tell you they are not allowed to extend offers. Banks are looking to cut costs further. The govt has scrapped the in person interview of visa workers. This is hand in hand with bringing in cheap labor that will put up with any kind of treatment or rules to get out of India. Banks will tout as "diversity".

That being said the job market is not great! It's aweful for banking jobs. And as others have said...no FAANG is going to run for a banker. Stuck between a rock and a hard place friends.

A lot of the banking skills don't translate very well outside the community and having a bank on your resume, especially one that has a controversial past, it is not a good resume item. After applying all over town and surrounding areas, if people don't get any responses will give their old employer another try (missing he old friends, desperation or Stockholm syndrome), just to see if they bite or maybe just to feel like they've applied somewhere that day. People are trying to make a living, survive, the job market is not great despite the media hype or the stats, nor is the same all over or the same for all age groups or genders. One day you will understand.
