Having trouble hiring

The labor shortage is real, folks. We're all overworked and trying to be in three places at once because nobody is applying. The few that are applying and are hired are here for a few days before they stop showing up. For once, I can't blame WFM. I know our team leader has been desperately trying to get us some help but it just isn't working. I'm not sure how long we'll be able to do this before we all break.

I left WFM awhile ago but I also heard that all new applications are funneled through regional TMS prior to being accessible to the store. Stores can’t act on a hire until it’s push from regional, which isn’t timely. - accurate hiring is a timely and targeted thing.
Most humorous is that these candidates are no longer directed to teams by interest or experience but are package emailed to all leadership. - if the produce TL is camped at her desk then it’s her lucky day, and all else can suck it.
More likely, nobody gets notice of new TM interest.
Stores are shells of earlier staffing and now is the time to implement this change?

No that's not what people are looking for at all. Of course nurses and higher skilled jobs should make more money people are looking to make enough to live a comfortable not an extravagant life working retail. You have an a-s backwards view the people making millions-billions can afford to take care if the people they employee they choose not to. Prices are out of control and big corporations are making huge profits.

low skilled labor gets low paid wages...because its mostly for kids. idk whats so hard to understand... you feel beat up and over-used so you think you deserve as much as someone that went to school (nurse) and has real impacts at their job....that wont happen. retail is the same everyday, you dont make progress, you just repeat the same BS everyday and it slowly wears you down and makes you bitter if you stay and not move up like most people...its not supposed to be a career. its obvious

Jesus christ what is wrong with people defending paying people low wages. There is no reason to not pay people a decent wage would it take some money away from Amazon yes but at the end of the day the company would be just fine. Low skilled labor is the backbone of society not the garbage people making money at the top. If you defend the people making ridiculous amounts of wealth over the dead bodies of people they let die in their facilities you should pull the corporate co-k out of your mouth.

plumbers. electricians. carpenters. 10 years to get to 30-40 an hour is not good if you live in a city and thats a fact. most long term TMs dont even move up for whatever reason so they are stuck in the 20 range as adults. thats great if you live in low population states but you need to step it up in the city.

Agreed that it's probably not worth the effort to angle for more pay/benefits. Company is quickly becoming just another grocery chain. Only differentiator now is most employees are still pretty great, but I imagine that changes as culture continues to die.

Please point us in the direction of a trades job that starts at $70K a year after 6 months of school, though. I'll quit today.

you all that are stuck here need to get the idea of getting paid more than dental assistants, etc out of your head

if you get paid $20 an hour for a job that needs 0 experience then it will be because gas is $9/gallon. the part time students get it and theyre young, its time for the long term people to get it too.

PS- my TL gets like $35 in hour and hes been here for 10 years. You can make that going to trade school for 6 months. If you dont get it...then you dont get it

Also WF got rid of Gainsharing, Stock Options, and decent wage increases that used to be at least a dollar or more. WF got rid of Team Builds and Store Parties (the pandemic not withstanding) WF got rid of TMAG which integrated the TM much more into the daily running of the store. WF got rid of a higher ratio of full time to part time and cut the amount of TM per team which has led to burnout and workers leaving. What WF has added is OTS, Kronos, centralized buying and Planograms which has led to unwanted product and a stagnant boring selection.all hidden within the mirage of "look how much we support local" The old culture of WF does not even begin to exist anymore even if the Core Values are so prominently displayed.

@ukq You're 100% correct. If you're not offering at least $20 an hour with benefits and flexible scheduling you will never be fully staffed with lower turnover. This goes for all retail and grocery.

better schedule flexibility....more full time to part time positions...whole foods screwed up during the pandemic with the "we are only gonna hire seasonal" thing....better pay....and how about increasing that 1300$ on the insurance card back to 1800 or something even close to the deductible....

There is no labor shortage. What is happening ........... companies are finding out that they are paying too low and people are only applying to higher paying jobs. The workers have finally wised up.

You want more workers? Then hike your starting pay and add more benefits.
