Exemptions to stay on WFH question

I'm trying to get an answer to this question but no luck so far with any of my managers and of course the town hall on RTO today was less than helpful. If we apply for an exemption to work from home and it is granted are we basically volunteering to be laid off at a future date? I likely qualify for a medical exemption but I'm nervous to actually do the paperwork for fear of being laid off. It would make my life a lot easier with my condition to continue to WFH so if I can I'd like to but if I'm going to just get laid off I may have to forego trying for the exemption and figure something else out.

If there is anybody that reads this that is in the know and can let me know for sure the consequence of getting an exemption I'd be really grateful for the answer. Thank you.

Did they actually change employee's status to make them come back to the office? Before covid employees were classified as remote, flexible, and on-site. Remote was totally WFH and flexible was up to 2 days WFH like they're forcing us to do now.

Fun fact: new hires are being offered BAH positions while current employees in the same department are required to go back to the office.

I should qualify for wfh due to a medical issue. I’m afraid to ask for an exemption. I plan to go in and hope for the best.

Something to consider - there are immune issues that cause someone to not maintain vaccine antibodies. Someone who comes into the office in this situation is essentially unvaccinated even if they get the vaccine and booster(s).

You are EXPECTED to return to the office. If you don’t, you are performing below expectations. Get it?

I have known people working from home before the pandemic and they are still with the company. Being laid off or not is something you can't control - I've seen people with exceeds rating being laid off a few months into a new year and seen people with below expectations staying in the firm for a couple of years.
If you are concerned about being laid off, focus on learning new skills/improving what you know that can be of interest for a new employer.

I have heard that “BNY works in mysterious ways”- if you take an exemption, they will eventually get you with a fails to achieve review.

It appears they need all the warm blooded bodies they can find. I know there are people who have been WFH for years even before the pandemic.
